I will admit that given the light-up features of the controller I thought I was in for a real flakey controller right out of the box – I was wrong. Immediately after pulling out the controller I could tell that the cheap xbox 360 controllers was better built than the raven and even the plastic felt more durable. Where I really noticed the difference was in the use of the primary buttons, especially the d-pad. The buttons on the Afterglow ap.2 are very close to the calibre of the genuine PS3 controller and the analog sticks are close too. It was pretty apparent without even hooking up the controller that this was superior to the Nyko Raven.
As mentioned in my prior article, I recently was evaluating the thought of changing my PS3 controller in order to purchase a controller of the Xbox 360 layout. I won’t harp on the same things as before, so check out my review of the Nyko Raven controller for my rationale behind this. After hooking up the unit to my PS3 I began to play Battlefield 3 – instantly I found myself forgetting that I was using a third party controller with the analog sticks performing quite smoothly. While the controller’s analog sticks are still not perfect, I have to admit that it is very possible to make the Afterglow ap.2 as your primary controller in a first person shooter.
While I do wish the Afterglow ap.2 had the option of reversing the triggers like the Nyko Raven, the superior button quality is enough for me to take back the Nyko. If anyone is looking for an Xbox 360 layout PS3 controller (or a controller that lights up) – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Afterglow ap.2.Mobile gaming is booming at the moment - with more and more people playing games on their smartphone or tablet. Infact, many people are choosing to play games on their mobile device over dedicated gaming devices, such as Sony's PSP and Nintendo's 3DS.
Back in April Sony announced that they were bringing wireless DualShock 3 support to their Xperia smartphones and tablets. We feel they've underplayed it's significance because cheap ps3 controllers support makes a huge difference to the mobile gaming experience.Sony's PlayStation 4 will support as many as four controllers at the same time, less than the number supported by the PS3 and Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One.gf43EDV4d
The four-controller limit was confirmed on Wednesday in a tweet by Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment. In contrast, the PS3 supports up to seven controllers, while Microsoft's Xbox One will support up to eight, allowing for more people to join in on a single game. The current Xbox 360 can manage up to four controllers. Hardware support isn't the only factor here. Games also must be designed with the necessary support. Few existing PS3 games can handle seven controllers, so Sony may have simply decided that four was the right number for most multi-user gameplay.
The Xbox One supports eight wireless controllers simultaneously connected to the system, compared to four on the PlayStation 4. Microsoft's figure of eight came via new details on the Xbox One controller's product page, whereas Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida chimed in (via Twitter of course) with the corresponding number for the PS4.
It's maybe not news that will matter to most players, but it does make eight-player local Bomberman a possibility on Xbox One, and that would be grand. As to how many Xbox One games will support local eight-player in reality ... we'll see. It's also a curious reversal of the current-gen situation. As Videogamer points out, the cheap xbox controllers can support up to seven controllers at once, while the Xbox 360 goes up to four.
