The procuring methods of cheap tablets

While you are opting for purchasing a tablet, most people consider that the cheap tablets are not valuable. However, the consumers can be surprised to figure out that there are the best cheap models on tablets. Prior to purchasing tablets for sale, the consumers are required to consider some important things. These incorporate the function, operating system, performance, price and size. Other than selecting the first one, you had better deal with some research to find the best one.

i) assessing the needs of your cheap tablets

The first thing is that you are to ensure your particular requirements for using the tablets. It is better to assess the needs. The considerations can be the plan for uses, replacement the desktop or laptop. The question of accessing the internet, storage capacity and the budget can be considered as well. Gaining all these answers helps you find out your cheap tablets.

ii) assessing the performance of the proposed products

One of the issues is to be reckoned that a costlier product do not necessarily generate a good performance. It is to be interpreted that a tablets for sale is not a yardstick to gauge good product. Beyond the prices there are many factors. The factors can be interface, ecosystem and the performance.

iii) selecting the producers of the tablets for sale

The manufacturers can wisely be selected. While choosing a good and dependable producer, there is the possibility of finding some good cheap tablets with the strict budget line. The dependability of the products needs to be determined. Going through the reviews of the review and the concerned sites helps you figure out a real image of the products.

iv) considering the size of the products

The tablets are delicate goods and the design requires being good. The size, weight and the dimensions are to be considered while making the selection and purchasing decision of the cheap tablets. There are the several images of each cheap tablet at the online tech shop, so you can find out the real image and the specification of the products properly.

v) quality of the processor and the screen

The quality of the processor and the screen are also the issues while considering the cheap tablets. The screen needs to be sharp and bright. Hence, you are to be able to find the viewing angles. The unevenness of the images relies upon the resolution of the screen and it is the best to select those having richer resolutions.

When you are contradicted about many selections that are available, it is wise to compare the costs of the prices and the attributes. Then, you are to be able to decide a good one. You can be able to save money while comparing the models of tablets for sale. The websites usually offer the comparison charts and you can select to observe them as you can get accustomed to the aspects of the prices of every model. Visiting the online tech shops helps you figure out cheap tablets nowadays. The online websites introduce higher quality, greater price. The consumer can purchase the tablet PCs in the wholesale price.

An enterprise tablets for sale might be their best hope-priceangels.com

The obvious outcome of the acquisition is that Microsoft now becomes a full-fledged hardware company. Past in-house hardware has been presented as “one-off” products, with Microsoft assuring hardware partners that it would avoid cannibalizing their sales. With Nokia, this “gentlemen’s agreement” will likely come to an end, at least with smartphones and tablets for sale.
One of the major complaints with Windows Phone and Windows 8 on tablets for sale, and really any new release of Windows, is that the software and the device don’t integrate well. By buying Nokia’s hardware capabilities, Microsoft hopes to steal a page from the Apple playbook and bring hardware and software under one tightly integrated roof.
The other obvious benefit to purchasing Nokia is that Microsoft’s mobile offerings have largely failed to meet their sales targets, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by Microsoft’s hardware partners. With sagging desktop and laptop sales, tablets are a key component of all the hardware players’ growth strategies. Major hardware partners have quietly abandoned plans to release new tablets based on Windows RT, and in many cases are turning to Android for their tablet offerings.

Despite well-designed hardware, Microsoft’s own Surface line of tablets has failed to achieve commercial success and still struggles with areas like battery life where Nokia may be able to help.On the enterprise tablet front, the obvious benefit we’ll see from this match is a new series of Windows tablets. It’s a safe bet that such a device was already in the works, and the only question is how quickly the combined company will be able to implement the benefits of a tighter integration between hardware and software.

If it wants to succeed, Microsoft needs a comprehensive and cohesive line of tablets. At the entry level, a successor to the Surface that offers a more familiar tablets for sale format vs. its current laptop-like screen, while retaining the high quality hardware, snap-on keyboard, and battery life would be a good start, assuming low pricing is maintained. At the upper end, a tablet running Windows 8 in a similar form factor with well-executed pen input might make enterprise inroads.f56DSF34

On the consumer front, the availability of Office on a tablet has failed to set the world on fire, even with the aggressive pricing of the Surface RT. Everyone should have the ability to use a cheap tablets for sale or computer. The prices still need to drop, and Tobii is still working on software for other operating systems, like MacOS X, Android, and iOS for iPad, but things are moving in the right direction. Give it some years, and you may have an eye tracking tablet of your own.

The $799 Surface Pro, which runs the full version of Windows 8 and supports both desktop software and Modern UI titles; and the $349 Surface RT, which includes a version of Microsoft Office but is otherwise confined to tablet apps. According to various reports, Microsoft plans to replace these options with three new tablets. The devices will include refreshed versions of the Surface RT and Surface Pro as well as an 8-inch Windows cheap 10 inch tablet. The updated Surface Pro will reportedly be called Surface Pro 2 but the new Surface RT will simply go by Surface 2 -- a sign that Microsoft recognizes how much the Windows RT nomenclature has confused and repelled consumers. The smaller tablet's name isn't yet known, though some are calling it the "Surface Mini."

Tablets for sale market to reach 900 million user base by 2017-Priceangels.com

The personal computer market is presently struggling due to the long time it takes to process an upgrade. Analysts noted that the dilemma of the PC market would also happen to the tablet market if tablets for sale makers fail to frequently release new products.According to Nielsen's chart, 70 percent of the mobile shoppers relied on their smartphone to locate a specific store, while 41 percent used their tablet.

The survey showed that 84 percent of the tablet users did so at home whereas smartphone users were far fewer at 24 percent. In turn, the smartphone number jumped to 56 percent while the shoppers were traveling, and down to 7 percent for tablet use.For checking prices, mobile device owners actually used their smartphones more: 56 percent compared to 50 percent with tablets.

88 percent of the tablet owners and 35 percent of smartphone owners checked prices at home. However while in the store, the numbers shifted dramatically, with shoppers using their smartphones (50 percent) over their tablet (5 percent). Clearly it's easier to whip out a phone to see if a product is cheaper on amazon than it is to load up a 7 inch tablet or larger.fdS4d3SJ

The International Data Corporation (IDC), a research firm, said during the second quarter that the tablet market seemed to have come to a halt, with growth slowing down. Still, Forrester Research predicted that the tablets' worldwide installed base would continue to skyrocket. The research firm also said that by 2017, the global users of tablets would reach more than 900 million, up from 2010's 15 million users.

Much of the deceleration was due to the changing product cycle of Apple. Apple's iPad currently remains as the top-selling tablet merchandise even with the recent decrease in the company's market share. The IDC said iPad's market share in the second quarter dropped to 32% from last year's 60%. Apple was able to sell 45 million units during the second quarter.Analysts said that once the market reached the predicted installed base, the concentration must turn to the tablets' upgrade cycles.

Neilson claims that 59 percent of mobile shoppers surveyed actually researched items on their Q88 Android Tablet before making a purchase whereas 54 percent used their phones. A whopping 93 percent of the tablet owners did their research at home compared to 63 percent of phone owners conducting the same research. While actually in the store, the smartphone is the better choice, with 21 percent of the consumers using their phone and 2 percent using their tablet.

For actually purchasing products on a mobile device, 38 percent of those surveyed said they did so on a tablet while 24 percent used their phone. At home, tablet use was 95 percent whereas smartphone use as 72 percent. While commuting, the numbers dropped with 1 percent for tablets and 6 percent with phones. An "other" sub-category shows that 18 percent used their phone and 4 percent used their tablet.

There are a few other statistics on the chart. Only 16 percent of the surveyed mobile shoppers said they wrote a review of a purchase using their tablet while 9 percent used their phone. 92 percent of the tablet owners did so at home while 86 percent of the smartphone users did the same. Only 13 percent of the shoppers used their tablet for shopping lists while 37 percent used their phone. A mere 20 percent used their tablet to write a comment about a purchase on social media while only 19 percent used their phones.

It’s the wholesale android tablets World Now and Microsoft Wasn’t Invited-Priceangels.com

Desktops and laptops make up about 20 percent of Apple's total computer sales, leaving the rest to the iPad lineup. That figure underscores Canalys expectations that wholesale android tablets will outsell other PCs by the end of this year, and right now those tablets are running Apple's iOS and Google's Android OS, not Microsoft's Windows.

Leaving Microsoft on the outside isn't going to hurt the tech giant -- at least not yet. As tablet sales continue to climb while desktop and laptop PC sales drop, however, Microsoft will start to feel the pressure to make a better stand in the tablet market. So far, Microsoft hasn't been able to successfully impact the tablet space, even with its own Surface devices.

In hopes of boosting its presence in the tablet market, Microsoft introduced its Surface tablets less than a year ago. The company hyped Windows app compatibility, ports that offer expandability not available on Apple's iPad and iPad mini, a bigger touch screen, and a removable keyboard. In essence, Microsoft created an ultra-thin Windows PC that just happens to look like a tablet.

Apple is the single largest PC maker, according to data from Canalys, topping companies such as Lenovo, HP, and Samsung. To find the single largest PC maker, Canalys combined desktop and laptop figures with tablets and those tablets are about to start outselling other computers, and that's a big problem for Microsoft.

Canalys said Apple shipped 18.6 million computer devices during the June quarter while Lenovo shipped 14.1 million, HP shipped 12.7 million, Samsung shipped 10.8 million, and Dell shipped 9.4 million units. Microsoft's tablet sales were lumped into "Other."fk5SRD3

Consumers didn't buy into Microsoft's tablet, and with three quarters of sales under its belt, the company has already a US$900 million write down, and only $853 million in tablet sales. Those sales include all three quarters the Suface has been available, by the way. In comparison, Apple sells the same amount in iPads in just under two weeks.

With the tablet market going to Apple and Android, Microsoft needs to find a way to draw consumers to cheapest tablet and convince shoppers that its operating system has a place beyond conventional PCs. Shoppers spending habits show they see the iPad and some Android devices as the way to go in the tablet market and so far aren't showing any significant interest in Windows.

Microsoft has an in with the mobile market thanks to smartphones running Windows, and if it can figure out how to leverage that into tablet sales, Surface and other Windows-based tablets might be able to get a foothold. Part of Microsoft's problem is that it is presenting Windows-based tablets as do-it-all devices, instead of showing the focused areas where they offer benefits over laptops. Apple, on the other hand, presents the iPad and iPad mini as easy to use tablets that aren't necessarily PC replacements, and that makes it much easier for shoppers to see why they want one.

Microsoft is a huge company and its Windows operating systems are on devices from an amazingly long list of companies, so don't expect to see it shutting down and giving back all the money to shareholders any time soon -- or at all. With the computer market shifting from traditional PCs to android 4.0 tablet, however, Microsoft needs to find a way to successfully play in that game soon or face missing out while watching its customers move on into the mobile space.

I think consumers already have preconceived notions of what a proper tablet UI looks like and folks, it ain’t Microsoft’s Modern UI. They rejected that UI on the Zune, they rejected it on Win 8 for PCs, why expect any different on a Microsoft tablet?

This could very well snowball. I work in an all Windows shop. Even here they’re looking at deploying tablets, Android tablets, in a number of places where five years ago they would have gone with a Windows PC. Each tablet will be a copy of windows AND OFFICE we won’t be buying.

wholesale android tablets Shipments to Trounce Notebooks at a Rate of 2:1 in 2014-Priceangels.com

These days, wholesale android tablets (and smartphones) are more than sufficient for light email, surfing the web, watching streaming videos, playing casual games, and more, so it's no surprise that slates continue to sell at a rapid pace. What some might find a little shocking, however, is that tablet PC shipments will soon outpace notebooks shipments by a factor of 2:1.

According to DisplaySearch, tablet PC shipments will reach nearly 364 million units in 2014, more than doubling the projected 177 million shipments of standard notebook PC and ultra-slim PCs. By 2017, the discrepancy will be even bigger, with tablet shipments reaching 589 million and notebook PC shipments holding steady at 176 million.

"The PC market is clearly shifting away from notebooks and toward tablets," said Richard Shim, senior analyst with NPD DisplaySearch. "Supply chain indications reveal that previously planned production of notebook PCs is being pulled back due to declining adoption and that brands are gradually increasing the number of tablet PC models in their product mixes. Panel and finished goods suppliers are also increasing production of displays and other components for tablets in order to keep up with the market changes."dssS2SAAa

It helps that consumers have more choices than ever. As DisplaySearch notes, the tablets for sale PC market is evolving, offering a greater choice in screen sizes and price points. As long as you have access to a keyboard for long typing needs, a mouse for precise cursor placing, and an internet connection for your tablet, you are golden. Wait a minute, that IS a laptop. So a tablet with this setup is just an underpowered laptop. Didn't we already go through this with netbooks?

The unit itself is made for up to 10-inch tablets. It’s got a nice weight to it, definitely setting it apart from most other generic keyboards. The slot that holds the tablet is fixed in size, so no moving parts to break. The keys are solid and feel just as nice as the average laptop keyboard, though at about 80% of the overall size. A charging cable was included, but it’s a generic mini-USB connection so you can use pretty much any other one to recharge the unit.

I grabbed the next tablet, my wife’s Samsung Galaxy Tab, and it paired quickly and worked fine…just like with my phone. Figuring it might be great with Samsung but maybe not others, I kept going. It worked well with two more tablets and even an iPad. In fact, it worked with virtually everything with which I tested it.

This high quality keyboard dock will ensure that typing on your cheap tablets becomes extremely easy and a lot more efficient. It will work with all Apple and Android tablets.Utilising active pairing technology, your tablet will automatically recognise the keyboard as soon as you turn it one, once the initial connection has been established.

Cheap Tablets Sales to Pick Up Later This Year-Priceangels.com

It’s taken only a few short years since the debut of the iPhone for U.S. smartphone adoption to begin to slow, and now it appears that tablets are saturating the U.S. market just as fast. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) this week revealed its market research outlook for the tablet market in the coming quarter. The report shows that 41% of “online U.S. consumers” already own a tablet. A further 40% intend to purchase a cheap tablets within the next two years, and 72% plan to purchase a tablet at some point.

Many U.S. consumers appear to be waiting until the fall to make their tablet purchases, though. New tablet lineups from Amazon and Apple are expected for the holiday season. Google just this month unveiled its refreshed Nexus 7 tablet.“Tablets faced a relatively stagnant second quarter in 2013, after several consecutive quarters of strong growth,” said Kevin Tillmann, a senior research analyst at CEA. “However, an increase in consumers’ purchase intent indicates optimism. Many consumers are waiting for the next generation of models to upgrade their existing devices.”

The CEA report also covered how U.S. consumers are using their tablets. Gaming has now surpassed social networking as the top tablet activity. Watching movies and messaging were the second and third most popular tablet pastimes, with social networking and shopping also making the top five.

“With nearly half of U.S. households expected to own a tablet in the next 12 to 18 months, tablets are undeniably impacting how consumers view and enjoy digital content,” said Tillmann. “As we move through 2013, anticipation runs high this year for the next wave of android 4.0 tablet to include new and innovative features. Striking the right chord with consumers’ expectations will be imperative to resuming the growth trends we’ve seen prior to this quarter’s purchase stagnation.”dfdWG4fa

Where are Samsung’s high resolution cheap tablets-Priceangels.com

Most people would agree that behind battery life and performance, the display is the most important component in a mobile device. Even more so in a tablet, where the display is especially crucial. A screen resolution which looks great on a 4.5-inch smartphone won’t pull off the same effect on a 10-inch tablet. The main reason for that is something called pixels per-inch (PPI).

The iPad 3’s Retina Display set a bar for other cheap tablets to reach with a pixel density of 264 PPI, but then the Nexus 10 surpassed it with its 300 PPI display. On Thursday, the new Nexus 7 beat them all into a submission with its 323 PPI screen, so we are left a little perplexed by the lack of a high-resolution tablet from Samsung, the biggest Android OEM.

It’s possible that Samsung simply believes that the Android tablet market just isn’t worth investing too much into and that the only way to beat the iPad is to undercut it and join in on the “race to the bottom”. Now that means that the costly high-resolution display is usually the first one to go.

Samsung is rumored to be working on a 12-inch Android tablet with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, but it won’t break any records with its slightly larger display size. The fact that Samsung’s high-end smartphones pack higher display resolutions (Full HD 1920 x 1080) into significantly smaller form factors doesn’t bode well for Samsung.

Samsung’s competitors aren’t standing still in the tablet domain either. Sony already has a Full-HD display on its Xperia Tablet Z, and Asus is packing a 2560 x 1600 display on its 10-inch Transformer Pad Infinity. Samsung needs to improve its tablet offerings ASAP if it wants to continue growing its tablet market share, because its current offerings are mediocre at best.sfk4FSs

What do you think of Samsung’s current tablets for sale offerings? Does Samsung need to offer a high-resolution tablet?Yes, absolutely, they need to improve the res on their tablets. It's not like most of their tablets are priced that cheaply either, so the low resolution certainly could be a determining factor for a lot of people, who will just get an iPad instead when they hear the Galaxy Tab or Note has much less pixels.

Even the Toshiba Excite Pro has a much better screen resolution. Samsung could at least put a 1920 x 1200 screen on their tablets. And as you say it's not like their tablets are cheaper than others. With that resolution, and an Exynos 5 Octa processor, it would have the power and resolution to run just about any two apps side by side, if not more. I like to see side-by side plus the overlay on LG phones. That would make this tablet the best business tablet

Microsoft Can't Sell Its Tablets To Consumers, So It's Selling Them To Schools For Cheap

Microsoft is giving out its newest tablets like candy. Last week, Microsoft announced it would give away Surface RT tablets to the 10,000 teachers attending the International Society for Technology in Education conference later this month.Earlier this month, Microsoft offered highly discounted Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets to those who attended TechEd North America 2013.

Now, Microsoft is launching a new program this week to sell heavily discounted Surface RT tablets to schools, Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet reports.

As part of Microsoft's new offer, schools throughout 25 countries will be able to purchase Surface RT tablets in bulk for more than 50% off per unit. Though, they will only be able to buy variations of the 32 GB Surface RT models. Microsoft's program starts June 24 and goes until August 31. Microsoft's Surface RT tablet debuted last year as the company's direct competitor to Apple's iPad. But with just 1.8% of the tablet market share, Microsoft is clearly trying to get its tablets in more hands. xs43DAs43

In Q1 2013, Microsoft sold a total of 900,000 tablets, most of which were the Surface Pro, according to a May report from the International Data Corporation. Compare that to 19.5 million tablets Apple sold, and the 8.8 million Samsung sold. In short, the Surface RT is Microsoft's least popular latest android tablet.

To make matters worse for Microsoft, its Windows 8 and Windows RT mobile operating systems aren't very popular, either. The combined shipments of Windows 8 and Windows RT in Q1 '13 reached 1.8 million units. Its Windows RT operating system is also one of the least popular, making up for just 0.4% of the tablet operating market share.

Earlier this week the folks from AT&T announced they’ll be the exclusive carrier of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet with 4G LTE. At the same time they detailed a pretty stellar deal offering the tablet for $199 (instead of $399) when bundled with participating Samsung Galaxy smartphones. A deal indeed. Today Samsung’s confirmed Verizon wants in on the fun, and will be doing the same for the rest of June.

From what we’re hearing, Verizon will be offering $100 off any Samsung 10-inch tablet with Verizon 4G LTE as a bundle deal for those purchasing the Galaxy S4, or the Galaxy S III. Instead of paying full price for the tablet, they’ll give you $100 towards the tablet of your choice if you’re also getting a new Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

And of course this requires a new 2-year contract, but that was expected. Samsung shared the details this evening over on Twitter, and Verizon’s also updated their Q88 Tablet support page with the $100 off sticker for those interested. They only have two 10-inch tablets available, but this is a good deal for those in need of a good smartphone/tablet combo for summer, or starting College soon.

Tablets More Useful Than Smartphones, Doctors Say

The two reports, titled "Mobile Usage in the Medical Space 2013" and "newest tablets Usage by Physicians 2013", found that doctors who use EHRs and a smartphone or tablet mainly use their handheld devices for sending and reading emails.

Physicians with tablets use their device to access EHRs much more frequently than smartphones, 51 percent of the physicians surveyed who had tablets reported using them daily to check EHRs, while only 7 percent of doctors reported checking EHRs daily using their smartphones.

75 percent of doctors who have access to EHRs use a smartphone and 33 percent use a tablet. However, time spent using the tablet to access the records is significantly (66 percent) higher.Google managed to make a big splash in the tablet market with the launch of its Nexus latest android tablet last year. It was expected that the company will be unveiling its successor at this year's Google I/O but that did not happen.

A recent report by CNET claims that Google is very close to launching its next generation of Nexus 7 tablet. The website has got this bit of information from market research company IHS. The report also illustrates that Japan Display and AUO have been roped to manufacture the display second generation Nexus 7. In addition to this, Quanta is the company that is making the tablet itself.

Another news report by DigiTimes claims that this Nexus 7 tablet will indeed start retailing in the month of July. This report adds that Google will price the 16GB version of Nexus 7 successor for $229. The report adds that the price of this tablet has been deliberately kept higher than its predecessor so that the company is not competing directory with the low-end tablet makers.dfdf1323D

The other rumoured specifications of the forthcoming Q88 Tablet from Google include a 1920 x1200 display, with a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch. It is expected that this tablet will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor rather than the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor on-board its predecessor. This tablet from Google is likely to compete head on with next generation iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD tablets from Apple and Amazon.

The Nexus 7 tablet was made by Google in collaboration with Asus. The tablets for sale sports 7-inch IPS display screen with a 1280x800 resolution. The other features of the tablet include 1GB of RAM, 1.2-megapixel front camera and 4,325 mAh battery. This tablet is available on Google Play for $199.

It will be interesting to see if Google indeed prices its second generation of Nexus 7 tablet at a higher price and if the move hurts sales.

Survey of physicians suggests tablets more useful than smartphones

Two reports from AmericanEHR Partners based on a survey of nearly 1,400 physicians suggests that newest tablets are of greater use for clinical purposes than smartphones.

"Mobile Usage in the Medical Space 2013" and "Tablet Usage by Physicians 2013" reveal that the most common activity of physicians who use an electronic health record (EHR) and use a smartphone or tablet is "sending and receiving emails." The second most frequent activity among tablet users is accessing EHRs (51 percent daily). Just 7 percent of physicians use their smartphone to access EHRs. Among physicians who have an EHR, 75 percent use a smartphone and 33 percent use a tablet, but time spent on latest android tablet is 66 percent higher than time spent on smartphones.

"These two reports provide useful insights into how physicians use technology to interact with patients, physician satisfaction with mobile devices and apps, and the differences of technology use within various user demographics," said Thomas Stringham, co-founder of AmericanEHR Partners, which provides comprehensive information to support clinicians in the selection and use of EHRs to improve health care delivery.

The top market share position is held by Apple®, with 55 percent of physicians using smartphones and 54 percent using tablets. Clinical app usage in a medical practice was much higher among smartphone users (51 percent daily) than tablet users (30 percent daily). The top five smartphone apps used in a medical practice were Epocrates®, Medscape®, MedCalc®, Skyscape®, and Doximity®. The top five tablet apps used in a medical practice were Epocrates®, Medscape®, Up To Date®, MedCalc®, and Skyscape®.

Only 28 percent of smartphone users and 18 percent of tablet users were "very satisfied" with the quality of apps for their profession.Included with the Aspire P3 is a Bluetooth keyboard case that adds 1.3 lbs. to the Q88 Tablet overall weight. It's important to note that this keyboard doesn't attach mechanically to the tablet, as some other Windows 8 hybrids do. When open, the bottom lip of the slate rests in a groove right above the keyboard, so that the device is propped at a good angle for typing.

Though unique, this setup doesn't feel very secure. We had no trouble using the P3 on our lap, but we would expect the tablet to flop backward easily if we were on a bumpy bus ride or turbulent flight.Powered by a third-generation 1.5-GHz Intel Core i5-3339Y Processor, 4GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD, the Aspire P3 turned in above-average benchmark scores. However, other Windows 8 tablets are faster.

Above the keyboard is a power button, two blue status lights and a microUSB port used to charge the accessory. The power button and lights are hidden when the tablets for sale is propped up, but we like that the keyboard automatically paired with the tablet so that we didn't have to mess with any Bluetooth settings.

Sony tablet makes a splash

I took a newest tablets computer and submerged it in a bowl of water for several minutes. I then poured more liquid onto it from a pitcher. Later I gave the machine a cold shower.

There were no ill effects after each dousing.I’ve been testing the Xperia Tablet Z, Sony’s latest showcase slate, the kind of notice-me hardware that the company hopes will help rescue its struggling electronics business from the deep end. It’s one of the best Android tablets I’ve tried.Tablet Z is impervious to water, and resistant to dust, too. It can withstand the kind of impending disaster that would likely drown a rival tablet. You know, when the kids knock over your morning coffee or you accidentally drop the tablet into a puddle or the kitchen sink.

latest android tablet Z is water resistant, not waterproof, an important distinction. Though Sony invites you to bring the Z to the pool or the beach, you presumably wouldn’t want to drop it in saltwater or a swimming pool full of chlorine. The only claim Sony is making is that the machine is water resistant up to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes. You must also ensure that the flaps protecting the ports and connectors are firmly closed.

Keep in mind that you’re not really meant to use it in the shower. As water pounded the display, the multitouch-screen jumped from one app to the next. Once I dried the tablet, order was restored. If water resistance were the only feature Sony had going with Tablet Z, I’d advise you to look elsewhere. Fortunately, Sony has designed an Android tablet with other benefits.xc5CGsdh

Sony managed to pack a robust quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor into an exceptionally svelte (0.27-inch) and lightweight (1.09 lbs.) rectangular design. This is a good-looking, premium-feel machine.

The full high-definition 10.1-inch display (1,920 x 1,200) is very nice, though to my eye not as superior as some other tablet screens I’ve seen, including the Retina display on the iPad. I don’t shoot many pictures on a tablet, but the results here are decent, if by no means exceptional. Q88 Tablet has an 8.1-megapixel rear camera and a 2.2-megapixel front camera.

It also has a microSD memory card slot, and HDMI for connecting the tablet to a larger-screen high-definition monitor. As expected, Sony leans heavily on its own entertainment properties — its Video Unlimited movie store and its Music Unlimited store. Gamers will appreciate that it is PlayStation-certified.

The tablets for sale also takes advantage of Near Field Communication technology for wirelessly sharing music, pictures, Web pages or other files with compatible phones or other devices. I got it to work with a Google Nexus 7 tablet, albeit with some trial and error.

Sony claims up to 10 hours of video playback on its battery or eight hours of Web browsing.Sony’s look-how-I-can-swim hardware isn’t cheap, but there are a lot of things to like: thin, attractive design, water resistance. The big question Sony faces is how big a splash that all adds up to, given all the Android tablets, and a rather formidable (albeit, keep-me-dry) rival in the iPad.

Despite data caps, more consumers are adding tablets to mobile data plans

Do capped data plans make LTE connectivity a waste for tablets for sale? Perhaps, but don’t tell that to the millions of people who are adding their tablets to their monthly shared plans. New research from Strategy Analytics has found that more than 40 million tablets are hooked up to either 3G or 4G mobile networks, roughly double the number of tablets that had data plans for 3G and 4G networks in 2012. fds1EWS6

The firm projects that there will be around 165 million tablets on mobile data plans by 2017, an eight-fold increase from the number of tablets on data plans in 2012. Strategy Analytics analyst Susan Welsh de Grimaldo notes that “while direct mobile broadband subscriptions on tablets represent less than 10 percent of the total tablet installed base in 2012, they were a key driver of positive postpaid net additions at leading operators AT&T and Verizon Wireless in Q1 2013.” The firm’s full press release is posted below.

Despite continued strong growth of smartphones and the prevalence of WiFi only tablets, mobile broadband subscriptions on connected tablets will expand rapidly in the next five years. Strategy Analytics forecasts global mobile broadband subscriptions on tablets will grow 8x from 2012 to 2017—as more than 165 million new tablets activate mobile data services.

The Strategy Analytics Wireless Operator Strategies (WOS) service report, “new tablets at Mobile Operators: Forecasts of Tablet Subscriptions, Data Traffic, Service Revenue 2010-2017,” projects that in 2017 global mobile tablet subscriptions will contribute nearly US$20 billion to operator service revenues and generate almost 3 and a half million Terabytes of mobile data traffic. With the new iPad setting the technology benchmark, 4G LTE quickly becomes the access technology of choice and will account for more than 80 percent of all mobile broadband tablet subscriptions by the end of 2017.

The most important near-term driver for tablet subscriptions is operator tariffs that aim to stimulate more tablet connections. In particular, service plans allowing multiple devices to share a pooled data allocation on a single data plan, such as those offered by AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Turkcell and later this year the Vodafone Red plans, are driving subscriptions directly on tablets, as are lower cost SIM-only prepaid tariffs for tablets. Other approaches to drive connections include bundling connectivity options out-of-the-box for tablets, such as the 4G Connect “comes-with-data” model launched by T-Mobile USA and HP initially on notebooks or the just announced Dell NetReady solution offering integrated 3G mobile connectivity from Telefonica for notebooks and tablets in a pan-European, pay-as-you-go model targeting enterprises.

“Mobile broadband tablets represent an important incremental growth opportunity for wireless operators. While direct mobile broadband subscriptions on tablets represent less than 10 percent of the total tablet installed base in 2012, they were a key driver of positive postpaid net additions at leading operators AT&T and Verizon Wireless in Q1 2013,” notes Susan Welsh de Grimaldo , Director, Wireless Operators & Networks at Strategy Analytics. Phil Kendall , Director, Wireless Operator Strategies, adds, “US, China, Japan and UK will be leading markets for tablet subscriptions, but we also anticipate strong growth in emerging markets of Brazil and India where video content and network upgrades will drive demand for wide-area connectivity on tablets.”
