Lenovo IdeaTab S6000 10″ Android tablet now available for $255-Priceangels.com

Following last month’s launch of new 7 inch newest tablets with MediaTek processors, Lenovo is now selling a 10 inch model with an MTK8125 quad-core processor. You can pick up the Lenovo IdeaTab S6000 from Lenovo for $255 when you use the coupon code JULY4PRICINGEVENT. Best Buy is also selling the tablet for $280.

The IdeaTab S6000 is a budget tablet with a 10 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. Lenovo says it’s part of the “enhanced multimedia line,” which basically means it has an IPS display and stereo speakers.

But budget tablets have come a long way in the last few years, and this model has most of the things you’d expect from a decent Android tablet, including 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, up to 9 hours of battery life, and Android 4.2 software. Lenovo also says an optional Bluetooth keyboard will be available.

The tablet has a micro HDMI port, a microSD card slot, a 5MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front-facing camera. It weighs about 1.24 pounds and measures about a third of an inch thick.

Here are the down-sides: The MediaTek quad-core processor is an ARM Cortex-A7 chip, which means it won’t offer the same performance you’d get from a model with a more powerful architecture like Arm Cortex-A15 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600. The 1280 x 800 pixel display is also starting to look a bit dated, at a time when 10 inch tablets with 1920 x 1200 pixel or higher resolution screens are becoming common. And according to the Best Buy website, the IdeaTab S6000 has a 4-point capacitive multitouch display, while many tablets have 10-point touchscreens.

More people are using tablets and smartphones than ever before. According to IDC, tablets and phones will finally outsell laptops this year. Walk into any meeting in corporate America and you’ll see people in lean-back positions, typing on tablets and phones.fdf2Fsd2d

There are reasons this tablet is selling for $255 instead of $400 or more.Hewlett Packard (HPQ) hastily exited the tablet market by shuttering its TouchPad during its early phase of its restructuring plan. The company had spent $1.2 billion on Palm's WebOS, which was supposed to give the company a position in mobile tablets and smartphones. Now that HP realizes it still needs to be in this market, the company is choosing the Android operating system to power the Slate 7, a tablet computer.

HP is also positioning itself in the budget market, by pricing the Q88 Tablet for US $170. For shareholders and users, the tablet strategy is unlikely to be a positive catalyst. HP will likely fail to succeed in the tablet market with the Slate 7. As it will be discussed further, the main reasons the tablet strategy will fail are brutal competition and a lack of differentiation.

IHS Raises Tablet Panel Shipment Forecast for 2013 to 262M Displays-PriceAngels

Boosted by orders from unbranded, white-box Chinese manufacturers, global demand for tablet panels is exceeding expectations, spurring IHS to increase its forecast for displays by 6 percent for 2013.A newest tablets of 262 million displays for tablets are forecast to be shipped in 2013, compared to the previous forecast of 246 million, according to the May Edition of the “LCD Industry Tracker--Tablet” report from information and analytics provider IHS (NYSE: IHS [FREE Stock Trend Analysis]). This will represent 69 percent growth from 155 million in 2012.

“Competitive dynamics in the tablet market have changed dramatically this year as Chinese white-box smartphone makers have entered the tablet market in droves,” said Ricky Park, senior manager for large-area displays at IHS. “These companies are producing massive quantities of low-end tablets that appeal to consumers in China and other developing economies. Because of this, the white-box manufacturers are driving up demand for tablet panels, particularly smaller displays using the older twisted nematic (TN) technology, rather than the newer screens using in-plane switching (IPS).”

Unbranded tablet makers purchased 40 percent of all tablet panels in April, up from just 17 percent in the first quarter of 2012.Partly because of the rise of white-box makers, shipments of smaller 8- and 9-inch tablet displays will rise by nearly 200 percent in 2013. In contrast, larger displays in the 9-, 10- and 11-inch range will suffer a 5 percent decline. The boom in white-box tablets is being driven the introduction of turnkey designs offered by processor makers. The designs make it easy for new, inexperienced market entrants to offer tablet products.

The Chinese white-box manufacturers hold certain advantages over the major incumbent tablet manufacturers. The white-box manufacturers are able to produce tablets at lower cost, more quickly and with greater flexibility in production. These companies also have the capability to manufacture both unbranded tablets, and make products for the major brands on a contract manufacturing basis.dsTP2fd38

Such white-box players also have been agile enough to take advantage of the current high availability and low-cost of tablet panels. Makers of displays for the shrinking PC market have switched over to the tablet market, spurring a glut that has depressed pricing. As prices have fallen, the white-box makers have demonstrated enough flexibility to boost production of low-cost tablets.

“Playing to their strengths, the white-box manufacturers are set to continue to increase their presence in tablets and propel the expansion of the overall latest android tablet market,” Park said.IHS believes the strong growth of tablet panel demand continued in the second quarter. The arrival of more turnkey tablet design solutions will drive up demand for 7- and 8-inch panels throughout the year.

The 8-inch panels are becoming an increasingly large segment of the tablet market, with a display area more appealing to users than the 7-inch size. In all, the 8-inch panels accounted for 11 percent of panel shipments in April, with Samsung and Acer having recently launched new tablets in that size. With more introductions likely coming in the third quarter, IHS expects a substantial market share for the 8-inch by the end of this year.

which is rare for a tablet — and they have an impressively full-PriceAngels

There's not much to the newest tablets besides its 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 display. As always, Sony makes a big deal of its Bravia heritage, touting the company's TV prowess as evidence that it knows how to make displays. Sony's TV division might want to distance itself from the Tablet Z's display, though: it's sharp and clear, but something has clearly gone wrong with the color reproduction. "White" is really more like yellow, so everything you look at has odd, almost old-fashioned tones — Fast Five took on a strange 1960s Western feel, which is awesome but not exactly correct. Off-color whites also throw off every other color, leaving the Tablet Z feeling like it's just been miscalibrated.

Sony's other divisions also contributed to the Tablet Z's speakers, and its camera. In both cases, the result is good without being overwhelmingly impressive: the 8-megapixel camera is fine but not meaningfully better than any other tablet despite Sony's pronouncements about its backside-illuminated sensor, and the lens' placement all the way in the top left corner of the back makes framing any close-up shot really awkward.

The speakers get louder than most — I could hear the Tablet Z over my air conditioner, which is rare for a tablet — and they have an impressively full, rich sound simply because there are four grilles surrounding the bottom two corners of the tablet. Of course, all that just exacerbates the fact that it sounds like you're listening to music on an 1880s gramophone, and there's so little bass response that Kanye West's "Black Skinhead" sounds a bit like an a cappella song with a snare drum.dfjhqDS32

The Tablet Z's 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor isn't the best on the market, but it doesn't really need to be — it's been a while since power has been an issue for Android tablets. The Tablet Z works just fine, with little lag or slowness whether you're playing a game or just swiping around the operating system. It even multitasks well, thanks certainly to its 2GB of RAM. The base model comes with 16GB of internal storage, and the $599 version has 32GB — both come with microSD slots so you can augment as you see fit.

Basically, it works like an latest android tablet: scrolling stutters in some apps, as it always does, and the occasional app can take a beat or two to open, as it always does, but nearly everything works as it's intended to. Unless the tablet's underwater, of course, at which point all hell breaks loose.

If there were a tradeoff Sony was going to make in order to squeeze the Tablet Z into its tiny frame, I figured it would be battery life. My worries were mostly unfounded, though, since at seven hours and nine minutes on The Verge Battery Test the Tablet Z is well above average for a 10-inch tablet. It's no iPad, which lasted better than nine hours, but it's better than many, and in more normal use lasted two or three days. That's really all I expect; everything else is just gravy.

Toshiba’s Windows 8 tablet aims for business users-PriceAngels

The business market is the target of Toshiba of Canada’s latest entry in the newest tablets space, the WT310 Windows 8 Pro business tablet.Launched this week, the tablet is designed for business users, and features an 11.6” Full HD touchscreen display running Windows 8 Pro, meaning it can run any Windows application that can run on a desktop or laptop.“It’s a full PC user experience,” said Yuji Wakabayshi, B2B product manager with Toshiba of Canada. “It has a digitizer you can use as an extension of your mouse in case you want to be a little bit more accurate, and it does everything your finger would.”

The tablet has a silver casing created from high-stiffness resin, and can also support the 32 or 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Users can choose between Intel’s latest Core i5 and i7 processors, and 128GB or 256GB of SSD storage, along with 4GB of RAM. It features a TPM and biometrics for enterprise-grade security, and weights 1.87 lbs. measuring about half an inch thin. It’s available now, starting at $1,349.99.

“The portability and processing power of the WT310 tablet will help business users achieve new levels of mobile productivity” said Wakabayashi. “Offering professionals the flexibility to work remotely and share information seamlessly on the go is part of the evolving Canadian business landscape. At the same time, corporate IT departments are demanding durable, secure, manageable devices to meet those needs.”

Archos unveiled this FamilyPad 2 tablet earlier this year as the French company tried to introduce the concept of a family-focused tablet. The product however doesn't seem to be a blockbuster as online retailer Dabs is currently selling it for just under £200, a significant discount off its official selling price and helped by a £20 discount that ends on Sunday (you will need to enter PAYPAL20 at checkout).

The unique selling point of the FamilyPad 2 is its massive 13.3in 1,280 x 800 pixel display that is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well as a dual-core Rockchip RK3066 system-on-chip clocked at 1.6GHz. Other features include 1GB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, HDMI and USB ports, 2-megapixel front and rear cameras, a battery that can power it for up to 10 hours and a weight of 1.3Kg, which is more than twice that of Apple's iPad tablet.sadS34sadd

Online retailer Dabs is selling the just-announced Acer Iconia W3 latest android tablet (model number NT.L1JEK.002) for £309.98, the price includes delivery and a £20 discount when entering the voucher code PAYPAL20. The tablet is the first and possibly not the last tablet to come with Windows 8 (and now Windows 8.1) and an 8in display.

The latter has a resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixel (WXGA) and we're slightly puzzled as to why Acer didn't opt for a more prevalent 1,280 x 800, 7in display (maybe Acer wants to pitch the tablet against the similarly-priced Apple iPad which has a 7.9in display rather than the Google Nexus 7).

You may need a scorecard to keep up with Samsung's latest tablets-PriceAngels

Last week in London, the tech giant announced two new Windows 8 slates: the ATIV Q and the ATIV Tab 3. Only four months earlier at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung introduced another model, the Galaxy Note 8 newest tablets. And today , Samsung said it was bringing out three new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets: in 7, 8 and 10.1-inch screen sizes. The 7-inch device will run on the Android 4.1 operating system, while the latter devices run on Android 4.2, or Jelly Bean.

The latest machines start arriving in the U.S. on July 7, with Samsung starting to accept pre-orders Tuesday. Tab 3 models come in white or a hue Samsung describes as gold brown. Prices are $199, $299 and $399, respectively.

While Samsung appears have a model in its portfolio that would theoretically appeal to any given tablet buyer, it also risks confusing consumers. Which is it now, a Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note 8, ATIV? Or is it perhaps the Galaxy Note II "phablet" that depending on your viewpoint is either a small tablet or oversized smartphone?

Samsung is pushing this latest Tab 3 trio as a less expensive alternative to the Note 8, with a user interface that ought to be familiar and serve as a complement to folks who have bought the company's current flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S 4.Samsung cites research from Forrester stating that 49% of U.S. consumers who own both a mobile phone and tablet prefer the tablet as their primary device to go online. And data from the same survey further indicates that across 25 types of tablet applications there is no single dominant use of tablets by users.

The survey goes on to say that a typical user is more well-defined by their lack of uniformity as evidenced by the fact that they engage in a widely varied mix of five to six different application types in a given month with only games topping the 50% threshold for all tablet users.DSsSed2ed

Samsung is pushing Tab 3's use in the living room. They feature IR Blasters that transform the latest android tablet into universal remote controls. Folks can get TV recommendations and on-demand content via Samsung's WatchOn service. The tablets are Wi-Fi only, but buyers do get one year of Boingo hotspot service gratis, along with three months of free Hulu Plus service and two years of free DropBox Service with up to 50 GB storage space.

Tab 3's are less robust than their premium Android sibling, the $399 Galaxy Note 8, which would appeal more to people who tend to use their tablets for creative pursuits. For instance, Note 8 users can exploit Samsung's so-called S Pen for drawing, jotting notes and taking advantage of other tricks.

Review: Sony Xperia Tablet Z-PriceAngels

When it comes to mobile devices, I’m pretty solidly in the Apple camp. Between iPods, iPhones and iPads, Apple has a pretty solid “in” around our house. I do own Android versions like a Nook newest tablets, but they tend to not see the same kind of use that the Apple gear does. That being said, this Apple slant is personal preference only — I review costumer electronics from a wide range of platforms and manufacturers and there are some pretty good alternatives out there. Having just spent a week playing with a new Sony Xperia Z 10.1-Inch tablet, I have to say, the next time I’m shopping for a tablet that’s not an iPad, this thing will be at the very top of my list.

Sony has always done industrial design well. From TVs to computers, the company is up there when it comes to putting out attractive products and the Xperia Tablet Z reflects this aesthetic. At just .27-inches thick and weighing only 1.09 pounds, Sony claims this is the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet out there. I found it extremely comfortable to hold and it’s one of the few full-sized tablets I’ve used that are well-suited to a single-handed grip for extended periods of time (a contoured rubberized strip of trip along the edge helps here). It’s also waterproof, able to survive a 30 minute dunking in up to three feet of water, and dust resistant. Svelteness and durability aside, the Xperia Z tablet just plain looks good.

The Xperia Tablet Z wouldn’t win in a ppi numbers war. In fact it wouldn’t come close. Its 1920 x 1200 resolution on a 10.1-inch screen means a ppi of 224. The latest full-sized iPad has a 264 ppi display, while Google’s Nexus 10 has a 300 ppi display.sfko32ds2f

Despite this, the Xperia Tablet Z’s display looks extremely sharp. It’s still capable of displaying full HD content and Sony’s image processor (the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2) does a superb job with motion and color. The display is bright, sharp and shows an amazing color palette — Sony says it’s the widest color spectrum available on any tablet. Whatever the marketing claims, my advice is don’t focus on this tablet’s relatively low ppi, unless you’re into hardware specs bragging rights. The display is simply fantastic.

Let’s face it, early versions of Android on tablets led to an experience that was sub-par compared to iPads. I don’t want to get into a flame war (I’ve used both platforms and own an Android tablet), but there really was no comparison when it came to a polished user experience. With Jelly Bean, that’s changed. Sony puts its own UI over top of Android 4.1, but combined with a very snappy CPU (a quad-core Snapdragon at 1.5GHz) and that display, this is a tablet that’s extremely enjoyable to use. I don’t feel like I’m giving something up compared to an iPad — it’s just different. Presumably Android 4.2 (which the Sony doesn’t yet support) will make things even better.

The Xperia latest android tablet was one of those review products that hurt to pack back into its box. I didn’t want to send it back. I really enjoyed using it and while I still turned to my iPad for some games, during the time that it was here, the Sony tablet was the one I used 90 percent of the time — and not just because I was reviewing it. I really liked it. The 16:9 form factor combined with its light weight made it ideal for scanning and reading web content, while the visual pop of the display made any multimedia applications shine.

Microsoft Can't Sell Its Tablets To Consumers, So It's Selling Them To Schools For Cheap

Microsoft is giving out its newest tablets like candy. Last week, Microsoft announced it would give away Surface RT tablets to the 10,000 teachers attending the International Society for Technology in Education conference later this month.Earlier this month, Microsoft offered highly discounted Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets to those who attended TechEd North America 2013.

Now, Microsoft is launching a new program this week to sell heavily discounted Surface RT tablets to schools, Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet reports.

As part of Microsoft's new offer, schools throughout 25 countries will be able to purchase Surface RT tablets in bulk for more than 50% off per unit. Though, they will only be able to buy variations of the 32 GB Surface RT models. Microsoft's program starts June 24 and goes until August 31. Microsoft's Surface RT tablet debuted last year as the company's direct competitor to Apple's iPad. But with just 1.8% of the tablet market share, Microsoft is clearly trying to get its tablets in more hands. xs43DAs43

In Q1 2013, Microsoft sold a total of 900,000 tablets, most of which were the Surface Pro, according to a May report from the International Data Corporation. Compare that to 19.5 million tablets Apple sold, and the 8.8 million Samsung sold. In short, the Surface RT is Microsoft's least popular latest android tablet.

To make matters worse for Microsoft, its Windows 8 and Windows RT mobile operating systems aren't very popular, either. The combined shipments of Windows 8 and Windows RT in Q1 '13 reached 1.8 million units. Its Windows RT operating system is also one of the least popular, making up for just 0.4% of the tablet operating market share.

Earlier this week the folks from AT&T announced they’ll be the exclusive carrier of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet with 4G LTE. At the same time they detailed a pretty stellar deal offering the tablet for $199 (instead of $399) when bundled with participating Samsung Galaxy smartphones. A deal indeed. Today Samsung’s confirmed Verizon wants in on the fun, and will be doing the same for the rest of June.

From what we’re hearing, Verizon will be offering $100 off any Samsung 10-inch tablet with Verizon 4G LTE as a bundle deal for those purchasing the Galaxy S4, or the Galaxy S III. Instead of paying full price for the tablet, they’ll give you $100 towards the tablet of your choice if you’re also getting a new Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

And of course this requires a new 2-year contract, but that was expected. Samsung shared the details this evening over on Twitter, and Verizon’s also updated their Q88 Tablet support page with the $100 off sticker for those interested. They only have two 10-inch tablets available, but this is a good deal for those in need of a good smartphone/tablet combo for summer, or starting College soon.

Tablets More Useful Than Smartphones, Doctors Say

The two reports, titled "Mobile Usage in the Medical Space 2013" and "newest tablets Usage by Physicians 2013", found that doctors who use EHRs and a smartphone or tablet mainly use their handheld devices for sending and reading emails.

Physicians with tablets use their device to access EHRs much more frequently than smartphones, 51 percent of the physicians surveyed who had tablets reported using them daily to check EHRs, while only 7 percent of doctors reported checking EHRs daily using their smartphones.

75 percent of doctors who have access to EHRs use a smartphone and 33 percent use a tablet. However, time spent using the tablet to access the records is significantly (66 percent) higher.Google managed to make a big splash in the tablet market with the launch of its Nexus latest android tablet last year. It was expected that the company will be unveiling its successor at this year's Google I/O but that did not happen.

A recent report by CNET claims that Google is very close to launching its next generation of Nexus 7 tablet. The website has got this bit of information from market research company IHS. The report also illustrates that Japan Display and AUO have been roped to manufacture the display second generation Nexus 7. In addition to this, Quanta is the company that is making the tablet itself.

Another news report by DigiTimes claims that this Nexus 7 tablet will indeed start retailing in the month of July. This report adds that Google will price the 16GB version of Nexus 7 successor for $229. The report adds that the price of this tablet has been deliberately kept higher than its predecessor so that the company is not competing directory with the low-end tablet makers.dfdf1323D

The other rumoured specifications of the forthcoming Q88 Tablet from Google include a 1920 x1200 display, with a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch. It is expected that this tablet will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor rather than the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor on-board its predecessor. This tablet from Google is likely to compete head on with next generation iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD tablets from Apple and Amazon.

The Nexus 7 tablet was made by Google in collaboration with Asus. The tablets for sale sports 7-inch IPS display screen with a 1280x800 resolution. The other features of the tablet include 1GB of RAM, 1.2-megapixel front camera and 4,325 mAh battery. This tablet is available on Google Play for $199.

It will be interesting to see if Google indeed prices its second generation of Nexus 7 tablet at a higher price and if the move hurts sales.

Survey of physicians suggests tablets more useful than smartphones

Two reports from AmericanEHR Partners based on a survey of nearly 1,400 physicians suggests that newest tablets are of greater use for clinical purposes than smartphones.

"Mobile Usage in the Medical Space 2013" and "Tablet Usage by Physicians 2013" reveal that the most common activity of physicians who use an electronic health record (EHR) and use a smartphone or tablet is "sending and receiving emails." The second most frequent activity among tablet users is accessing EHRs (51 percent daily). Just 7 percent of physicians use their smartphone to access EHRs. Among physicians who have an EHR, 75 percent use a smartphone and 33 percent use a tablet, but time spent on latest android tablet is 66 percent higher than time spent on smartphones.

"These two reports provide useful insights into how physicians use technology to interact with patients, physician satisfaction with mobile devices and apps, and the differences of technology use within various user demographics," said Thomas Stringham, co-founder of AmericanEHR Partners, which provides comprehensive information to support clinicians in the selection and use of EHRs to improve health care delivery.

The top market share position is held by Apple®, with 55 percent of physicians using smartphones and 54 percent using tablets. Clinical app usage in a medical practice was much higher among smartphone users (51 percent daily) than tablet users (30 percent daily). The top five smartphone apps used in a medical practice were Epocrates®, Medscape®, MedCalc®, Skyscape®, and Doximity®. The top five tablet apps used in a medical practice were Epocrates®, Medscape®, Up To Date®, MedCalc®, and Skyscape®.

Only 28 percent of smartphone users and 18 percent of tablet users were "very satisfied" with the quality of apps for their profession.Included with the Aspire P3 is a Bluetooth keyboard case that adds 1.3 lbs. to the Q88 Tablet overall weight. It's important to note that this keyboard doesn't attach mechanically to the tablet, as some other Windows 8 hybrids do. When open, the bottom lip of the slate rests in a groove right above the keyboard, so that the device is propped at a good angle for typing.

Though unique, this setup doesn't feel very secure. We had no trouble using the P3 on our lap, but we would expect the tablet to flop backward easily if we were on a bumpy bus ride or turbulent flight.Powered by a third-generation 1.5-GHz Intel Core i5-3339Y Processor, 4GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD, the Aspire P3 turned in above-average benchmark scores. However, other Windows 8 tablets are faster.

Above the keyboard is a power button, two blue status lights and a microUSB port used to charge the accessory. The power button and lights are hidden when the tablets for sale is propped up, but we like that the keyboard automatically paired with the tablet so that we didn't have to mess with any Bluetooth settings.

Sony tablet makes a splash

I took a newest tablets computer and submerged it in a bowl of water for several minutes. I then poured more liquid onto it from a pitcher. Later I gave the machine a cold shower.

There were no ill effects after each dousing.I’ve been testing the Xperia Tablet Z, Sony’s latest showcase slate, the kind of notice-me hardware that the company hopes will help rescue its struggling electronics business from the deep end. It’s one of the best Android tablets I’ve tried.Tablet Z is impervious to water, and resistant to dust, too. It can withstand the kind of impending disaster that would likely drown a rival tablet. You know, when the kids knock over your morning coffee or you accidentally drop the tablet into a puddle or the kitchen sink.

latest android tablet Z is water resistant, not waterproof, an important distinction. Though Sony invites you to bring the Z to the pool or the beach, you presumably wouldn’t want to drop it in saltwater or a swimming pool full of chlorine. The only claim Sony is making is that the machine is water resistant up to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes. You must also ensure that the flaps protecting the ports and connectors are firmly closed.

Keep in mind that you’re not really meant to use it in the shower. As water pounded the display, the multitouch-screen jumped from one app to the next. Once I dried the tablet, order was restored. If water resistance were the only feature Sony had going with Tablet Z, I’d advise you to look elsewhere. Fortunately, Sony has designed an Android tablet with other benefits.xc5CGsdh

Sony managed to pack a robust quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor into an exceptionally svelte (0.27-inch) and lightweight (1.09 lbs.) rectangular design. This is a good-looking, premium-feel machine.

The full high-definition 10.1-inch display (1,920 x 1,200) is very nice, though to my eye not as superior as some other tablet screens I’ve seen, including the Retina display on the iPad. I don’t shoot many pictures on a tablet, but the results here are decent, if by no means exceptional. Q88 Tablet has an 8.1-megapixel rear camera and a 2.2-megapixel front camera.

It also has a microSD memory card slot, and HDMI for connecting the tablet to a larger-screen high-definition monitor. As expected, Sony leans heavily on its own entertainment properties — its Video Unlimited movie store and its Music Unlimited store. Gamers will appreciate that it is PlayStation-certified.

The tablets for sale also takes advantage of Near Field Communication technology for wirelessly sharing music, pictures, Web pages or other files with compatible phones or other devices. I got it to work with a Google Nexus 7 tablet, albeit with some trial and error.

Sony claims up to 10 hours of video playback on its battery or eight hours of Web browsing.Sony’s look-how-I-can-swim hardware isn’t cheap, but there are a lot of things to like: thin, attractive design, water resistance. The big question Sony faces is how big a splash that all adds up to, given all the Android tablets, and a rather formidable (albeit, keep-me-dry) rival in the iPad.

Aakash maker Datawind tops India's tablet market

Britain-based hardware manufacturer Datawind, maker of the Indian government's Rs 2,500 Aakash tablet, emerged as a market leader in India's newest tablets market during the first quarter of 2013, according to latest data from market research firm Cyber Media Research.During the January-March period, Datawind had about 15% market share in the tablet market, compared to homegrown firm Micromax that had about 12% share, according to the research firm. Datawind shipments do not include its sale of Aakash tablets to the government.

Surprisingly, sales of tablet computers fell more than 17% in the first quarter of this year, even as consumers shift from desktop and laptops to touch-based devices. About 905,000 tablets were sold during the period compared to 1,097902 units in the previous quarter.

According to Cyber Media, nearly 10,000 latest android tablet were shipped everyday during the January-March quarter and overall shipments recorded a 150% growth, compared to the same period last year. iPad maker Apple was in third place with a 12% market share.

"The continued long-term growth in shipments of tablets in the India market further points to the fact that a large proportion of first time users of computers in emerging markets like India are getting to experience computing through this highly portable, converged form factor," said Faisal Kawoosa, analyst at Cyber Media.

Kawoosa said the fall in tablet sales is "not substantial" and it could be attributed to seasonality. According to the report, only nine tablet vendors shipped in significant volumes of more than 20,000 units during the period. It features an 11.6-inch 1080p screen and a detachable keyboard, allowing the user to operate the device as a tablet or a laptop computer. It can also be plugged into an external monitor and function as a desktop PC, the company said.ds3SDdsd34

When the screen and keyboard are connected the system operates as a Windows PC, while separating the screen allows it to be used as an Android tablet. The hybrid is likely to be launched by the end of this year, the company said.Asus also unveiled a low-cost seven-inch Q88 Tablet called Asus MeMO Pad HD7, priced at $129 for an 8GB model and $149 for a 16GB version. The low-cost tablet was unveiled after Acer launched the industry’s first 8.1-inch tablet to run Microsoft’s Windows 8 software.

Many people spend their last moments before sleep reading on a tablet computer or checking messages on a smart phone. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic wondered whether the light emitted by such devices might be disrupting users' sleep patterns.

Dr. Lois Krahn, a psychiatrist at Mayo's Scottsdale, Ariz., clinic, conducted the study to determine if smartphones and tablets were interfering with melatonin, a hormone that helps control the body's sleep cycle."The question is does a tablet or mobile device emit enough light to be a problem?" Krahn said on the Daily Circuit.

Krahn's research involved measuring the light two different cheapest tablet and a smartphone emitted in a dark room. The measurements were made at various distances.

Crowdstar the latest social games publisher to switch focus to tablets

The phrase "mobile-first" continues to be en vogue for a range of media and entertainment services. But in the world of social gaming, "tablet-first" is becoming just as popular a strategy.

Publisher Crowdstar is the latest to adopt it, having raised $12m of new funding to tilt its business more towards newest tablets, and away from web games on Facebook – although the social network will continue to be a key ingredient in the company's mobile games."We've completely switched to mobile and the focus will be on tablets," chief executive Jeffrey Tseng tells TechCrunch, which reports that Crowdstar will release two new games later this year under the new approach.

The company is already active on iOS and Android with a notably female-focused range of games that include Top Girl, Top Stylist, Modern Girl and Mermaid World. Its latest funding comes from existing investors. Crowdstar has now raised nearly $47m since 2011, including investment from Intel Capital, Time Warner Investments and Chinese online gaming firm The9.

The company blazing a trail for tablet-first games is Finnish developer Supercell, which started life with a Facebook (web) game called Gunshine in 2011, before pivoting in 2012 with the iOS launch of Hay Day and Clash of Clans. In the first quarter of 2013, those two titles alone generated $179m in revenues for Supercell. It's no wonder Crowdstar and other companies that cut their teeth first on Facebook are turning towards tablets.

There are a growing number of studies and market predictions encouraging these strategic decisions. In April 2013, a GfK MRI iPanel study claimed that half of US adult tablet owners had played a game on their device in the last 30 days.fsfd3WD3x

Meanwhile, Juniper Research claims that Q88 Tablet owners are downloading more than twice as many games for their devices than smartphone owners, predicting that combined game downloads on both device types will reach 64.1bn by 2017, with 93% of those being free downloads (or rather free-to-play, making money from in-app purchases and/or advertising).

In March 2012, Juniper also predicted that the global tablet games market will be worth $3.1bn in 2014."Tablet games are growing so much because they are such an accessible way for all consumer segments to access games," said Juniper's Siân Rowlands at the time the more-recent research was published.

"In particular mid-core gamers, who previously spent a lot of money and time playing games but now have jobs, families or other commitments, are driving this trend. These people are really embracing the cheapest tablet form factor."

A month with the Microsoft Surface tablet

The Microsoft Surface got off to a shaky start. Preorder demand seemed strong for Microsoft’s (MSFT) debut newest tablets but the company made it a point to note that initial supply would be limited following the Surface’s launch. CEO Steve Ballmer then stated on multiple occasions that Surface sales have been relatively slow, likely in an effort to keep investors’ expectations in check. Microsoft’s partners have slammed the Surface time and time again, and analysts have done the same. Is Microsoft’s premiere Windows hardware offering doomed to crash and burn?

First and foremost, I still firmly believe that Microsoft has built the best tablet on the planet in terms of hardware. Seriously.

The Surface isn’t anywhere near as thin as Apple’s (AAPL) fourth-generation iPad but the thicker case is easy to forgive when you consider the various advantages the Surface offers. For one thing, it features dedicated charger, USB and HD video-out ports. The ability to charge the latest android tablet while an accessory or a flash drive is plugged in and while connected to a second monitor or TV is a welcome change from the single-port setup on the iPad. The Surface also features stereo speakers on either side of the top of the device when held in landscape — where speakers should be — along with a microSD slot and a kickstand.

The kickstand is a huge benefit for the Surface. Machined from the same “VaporMg” magnesium as the rest of the Surface’s case, the integrated kickstand props the tablet up on a table or even on a user’s lap quite comfortably. The result is a tablet that is perfect for watching movies or TV shows in any setting. Add on Microsoft’s Touch Cover or Type Cover and you have a legitimate notebook computer that occupies a fraction of the space despite its full size keyboard.df2Dsda2

The utility of a device in a work environment will always vary dramatically depending on what the user does for a living. Some people can do their jobs just fine on the iPad, for example, while others laugh at the idea of even trying to work on Apple’s tablet. I fall into the latter category.

If you live in Microsoft Office apps like Word and Excel, it just doesn’t get any better than the Surface. This is a $499 Q88 Tablet that offers a true desktop Office experience — for free — that is so much better than similar experiences on the iPad or on Android tablets, there isn’t even a usable scale for comparison. Multitasking and switching between open apps is also a far better experience on the Surface than it is on any other tablet.

Apps are still the Surface’s biggest problem for all the reasons I covered in my initial review. Good apps are very hard to come by and many popular cheapest tablet apps simply aren’t available for Windows RT. Some will launch eventually and others might never make it to the Surface. The potential is there — I see it now as much as I saw it when I first reviewed the Surface. Whether or not Microsoft’s first tablet will ever realize its full potential remains to be seen.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z review

Sony has a history of distinctive looking tablets. From the folding Tablet P with its two screens to the wedge-shaped newest tablets S designed to resemble a book, it's now arrived at the less weird, but still distinctive Tablet Z, and it's easily Sony's best tablet yet.It may have none of the wilfully odd dimensions of its predecessors, and be closer to standard tablet form, but the Tablet Z has a blocky, slab-like appearance without the gently curving edges of many of its rivals. All of the front is covered by a sheet of toughened glass and the back is of thin, but not flexible rubberised plastic.

The sides are broken by the distinctive silvery Xperia power/sleep button and a volume rocker, with microUSB port (with MHL support so you can hook up to an HD telly via HDMI with a suitable adaptor) and 3.5mm headphone jack hidden behind plastic grommets, as are ports for microSD memory card (up to 64GB to add to the built-in 16GB) and 3G SIM card -- you can't make phone calls with it, but you can access the internet without the need for Wi-Fi. There are also stereo speakers at each side and on the bottom if you're holding it in landscape mode, four in all.

Sony says the latest android tablet Z is the thinnest tablet anywhere and it's certainly the thinnest we've seen, measuring a fraction under 7mm. It's beautifully lightweight too at 495g, noticeably more feathery than the iPad's 652g. Despite the lack of heft, Sony doesn't appear to have left much out, and it's packed with state-of-the-art tech.

Like some other recent Xperias, the Q88 Tablet claims to be both water and dust resistant and is designed to be submersible up to 90cm for half an hour.sd11C3deD

We popped it in the sink for ten minutes, which certainly didn't seem to do it any harm. Unlike virtually any other tablet, if you want to read or watch movies in the bath, this is the one you'll be reaching for.The 1.5GHz processor is backed by a hefty 2GB RAM and it's plenty fast, with apps opening spritely and web pages rendering quick smart. It handled 3D games well too, including Real Racing 3, without a hint of stuttering or delay. Our AnTuTu benchmark test placed it at 20,379, which puts it a little behind top-of-the-range quad-core mobile handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, but ahead of any other 10-inch tablet we've seen.

Perhaps surprisingly, the cheapest tablet has launched with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, though it's apparently scheduled to get an upgrade to the latest 4.2 version soon. Sony has made its usual aesthetic tweaks to the interface and there's a bunch of bundled apps including Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited for streaming music and movies. There's no option for multiple users though, which argues against making it a general tablet for family use -- seems like a trick missed.

Android poised to overtake iOS in tablet platform share

Despite Apple's success in the tablet market in recent years, Android is poised to overtake iOS in the latest android tablet platform space, according to ABI Research.

The research firm cited China as the wildcard variable in the ongoing tablet platform race. While the region is passionate about Apple's brand and the masses' ability to afford new technology, smaller Android-based tablets are becoming increasingly popular.Enterprises appear torn between the cheap Android devices that cut down on IT budgets, but the simplicity and the security benefits that the iPad and iPad mini offer. But prosumers and SMB-minded folk are likely keeping $200 and under tablets on the table, and keeping Android relevant in both emerging and developed markets.

"It's inevitable that Android newest tablets will overtake iOS-powered slates, though we see no single vendor challenging Apple’s dominance anytime soon," said ABI Research senior practice director Jeff Orr. While Android continues to spin in China, a massive population of still mostly untapped revenue for firms like Google and Apple, iPad popularity has reached its peak as well as a saturation point.CXSDdsf44

According to recent IDC figures, Apple had just shy of half the overall tablet shipments for the first quarter. That is, not because the company doesn't have its own slimmed-down tablet. Of course, it has the iPad mini.

But Android's platform share is far higher on two fronts: it has a greater platform spread with more Android-based devices, and many of those devices are Q88 Tablet or less, just as the iPad mini is.

Apple's tablet growth is beginning to slow. Its overall market share is dipping quarter-over-quarter. Also, Apple's Mac sales are suffering as a result of the iPad explosion, leading to an eventual and potential ding for two of the company's major revenue-making divisions.

The average selling price has been moving down-market since Android tablets began to undercut the iPad — not just in price but physical size. (Remember, the iPad mini was in reaction to smaller Android cheapest tablet, rather than the other way around.)

In line with IDC's latest research, published on Tuesday, that claims smaller tablet screens would ultimately end up dominating the market — with 8-inch or less displays taking around 57 percent of the market by 2017 — ABI Research agrees."Expect iPad minis to become the predominant iPad model after the June quarter," Orr added.

MediaTek launches quad-core tablet chip

Taiwan's MediaTek has launched a new quad-core ARM processor for tablets that is slated to be used in an upcoming IdeaTab device from Lenovo.Lenovo will use the new chip in an Android tablet called the IdeaTab S6000, according to MediaTek.The Taiwanese semiconductor company is best known as a chip maker for handsets circulating in Asia, but the company is also hoping to break into the tablet sector, a major market for growth, said Roger Sheng, an analyst with research firm Gartner.

The iPad, which is powered by ARM chips designed by Apple, is currently dominating the world's newest tablets market. But new processors from MediaTek could help pave the way for more rival devices running Google's Android OS, Sheng said.

To market its chips, MediaTek can rely on its strong business relationships in both Taiwan and mainland China, which PC vendors including Acer, Asus and Lenovo are based. "I think the major advantage for MediaTek is their experience in the Chinese market," he added. "Almost all the Android tablets are made in Taiwan and China, except for Samsung in Korea."

PC vendors are also looking for new growth opportunities. Both Acer and Asus have already signaled they plan to release more latest android tablet in a time when the PC market continues to struggle.fdEWgd34s

"The timing is good for MediaTek," Sheng said. "7-inch, Q88 Tablet have also grown in popularity."Importantly, because Firefox OS (like all of Mozilla’s products) is open source, there’s really nothing stopping a company like Foxconn from flashing the code onto a 7- or 10-inch tablet and seeing how consumers react.Tablets are a substantial slice of the mobile browsing pie chart, and their share continues to increase. Would shoppers be interested in an inexpensive, browser-powered tablet from Foxconn? At the right price, absolutely.

The disadvantage with Windows 8 is that you need fairly powerful hardware to run it, and the prices for these tablets tend to start at around £500 compared to £400 for the latest iPad, £270 for the iPad mini, and as little as £99 for some of the cheap and cheerful Android tablets. More expensive models, such as HP's HP Envy x2 with its detachable keyboard/battery can set you back £800 or more.

In some ways that's a good thing, as ditching some of the decades-old baggage of traditional Windows means that Windows RT is a lot more streamlined than Windows 8. It runs well on less expensive hardware and we've seen cheapest tablet such as the neat little Dell XPS 10 Tablet selling for just £199.

IDC sees tablet shipments eclipsing notebooks this year

The latest projections, published on Tuesday by IDC, call for newest tablets shipments to reach 229.3 million units this year, up from 144.5 million a year ago. That will likely be enough to push tablets ahead of notebook computers. And by 2015, IDC predicts that tablets will out-ship all PC units, including desktops. The prediction comes as tablet sales continue to rise, and the PC market remains in a slump.

Those struggles were predicted by late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 2010, when he said the debut of the iPad signaled the beginning of a market-wide transition to a post-PC era. At the time Jobs believed that traditional PCs would remain, but their presence would be diminished over time as fewer users would need their specific abilities.

"The transformation of the PC to new form factors like the latest android tablet is going to make some people uneasy because the PC has taken us a long ways," Jobs said at the AllThingsD conference. "The PC is brilliant… and we like to talk about the post-PC era, but it's uncomfortable."To date, Apple's iPad has been the dominant device in the tablet market. But current growth is being driven largely by low-cost Android devices, IDC said.

The firm believes that the average selling price for tablets will drop 10.8 percent to $381 this year. That's still above the $329 entry price of the iPad mini, but well below the $499 starting price of the full-size iPad.

"Apple's success in the education market has proven that Q88 Tablet can be used as more than just a content consumption or gaming device," said Jitesh Ubrani, research analyst for IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. "These devices are learning companions, and as tablet prices continue to drop, the dream of having a PC for every child gets replaced with the reality that we can actually provide a tablet for every child."GFaf4cgfg

Reflecting Apple's success with the iPad mini, and the popularity of low-cost Android tablets, IDC believes that tablets with screen sizes of 8 inches or less will account for 55 percent of shipments this year. That's expected to increase to 57 percent by 2017.

And while cheapest tablet sized between 8 and 11 inches were 73 percent of the market in 2011 before the introduction of the iPad mini, that market segment is expected to shrink to 37 percent by 2017.

IDC's market-wide forecast comes on the heels of a projection by noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who said last week that he believes iPad shipments could see their first-ever year-over-year decline in the second quarter of calendar 2013. To date, Apple has managed to grow iPad shipments every quarter since the launch of the first model in 2010.

Smartphones, tablets 'threatening' video game industry

Serious people discuss whether these new consoles, facing competition from cellphones and newest tablets, might be endangered. Untethered from a television, mobile devices - which draw hundreds of millions of people to distraction with "Angry Birds," "Clash of Clans" and "Temple Run" - make gaming more convenient. The home console's appeal is dependent on the notion that gaming on a television still matters.

As a part of this Facebook contest, participants will have to click on an app on HCL ME Tablet Qatar Facebook page. Participants need to answer three questions, one related to each product and the major USP, and one question related to brand campaign: “Change Begins with ME”. This contest aims to engage participants and encourage them to share and like the post on their personal Facebook page. The selection procedure of the contest would be based on the quality of answers shared by the individual participant.

The winners would be given latest android tablet as gifts. There will be total three winners among which first prize winner will be given a HCL G1 and 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive an HCL ME Y3 and a HCL U2 respectively.

According to the study, some 52% of travel booked in the first quarter of this year was made using a Q88 Tablet device. The study suggests that consumers favor their tablet devices when it comes to mobile payments and travel. Smartphones and laptops were also used for travel booking, but tablets were praised for providing a more enjoyable and convenient experience over other platforms. This is similar to a trend that exists in the retail industry, where tablet consumers have been showing more interest in mobile payments than those using smartphones.

Distributor D&H Canada is reporting growth of 16 per cent in its fiscal 2013, thanks to strong sales of tablets, notebooks and networking products.According to the company, its tablet sales have doubled year-over-year, thanks largely to 7” and 10” Android models in the seven- and 10-inch formats, and it expects this overall growth to continue into its fiscal 2014.ddQW53D

Back to the 2013 results, D&H said it’s starting to see strong sales for 10” tablets running Windows 8 Pro that are well-suited to corporate use, such as the Lenovo cheapest tablet 2 and the Atom-powered HP ElitePad 900. It’s predicting aggressive sales of forthcoming 7-inch Windows 8 Pro models, and added a strong accessories market is beginning to grow around these tablets, offering a strong bundling opportunity for resellers.
