10 inch android tablet sales in India to grow over 100% in FY'14-Priceangels.com

Rising number of people on the move, preference for a lighter device and better affordability are expected to drive an over 100 per cent growth in tablet sales in the country to 3.84 million this fiscal, says industry body MAIT.

10 inch android tablet sales in India, that is counted among the leading markets for sale of tablets and smartphones globally, stood at 1.90 million in 2012-13 fiscal, data provided by IT hardware industry body Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT) shows.According to MAIT's annual industry performance review, conducted by market research firm IMRB International, tablets are eating into sales of desktops, notebooks and netbooks.

The 2012-13 fiscal has been the year for the tablet PC with consumers preferring it over PC as replacement, MAIT President J V Ramamurthy said. The combination of basic functioning of a PC coupled with affordability is turning the tide in its favour, he added.Compared to the growth in tablets, PC sales are expected to rise by a modest 8 per cent to 12.11 million in the current fiscal against 11.17 million in 2012-13 fiscal, he added.

"Tablets are cannibalising the PC market and registering a phenomenal growth of 424 per cent in the second consecutive year," Ramamurthy said.Tablet sales in 2012-13 stood at 1.9 million units against 0.36 million in 2011-12.On the growth in Q88 Android Tablet sales, research firm IMRB Group Business Director Biswapriya Bhattacharjee said as an increasing number of professionals are working on the field or are travelling, tablets are a preferred devices as they are light and handy.dfdWG4fa

Tablets are here to stay and in the future more evolved versions will hit the markets, he told PTI.In 3-5 years time, we see the existence of two devices -- a computation devices and a creation device. People will be using more of the computation devices like smartphones and tablets, he added.

Bhattacharjee said that the smartphone and tablet space could merge in the future with the existence of a 5-inch screen device, which would be the mainstay. We already know that Android is, and has been for a while, the most dominant force in the smartphone market, but the tablet market is an area which has typically been a bit harder to crack. However, the latest research put together by Strategy Analytics shows that Android is also breaking away from the rest of the pack in the tablet market too.

The research found that global tablet shipments grew again over the previous year, with 51.7 million units shipped in the second quarter of the year. Last year, 36.1 million units shipped during the same quarter, so the global tablet market has grown by 43 percent over the past 12 months.

Looking specifically at each operating system, Android latest tablets accounted for 34.6 million of global tablet shipments, whereas Google’s largest rival, Apple, only accounted for 14.6 million. Percentage wise, Android tablets have grown by 87 percent over the year, whilst Apple experienced a 14 percent decline.

Cheap Tablets Sales to Pick Up Later This Year-Priceangels.com

It’s taken only a few short years since the debut of the iPhone for U.S. smartphone adoption to begin to slow, and now it appears that tablets are saturating the U.S. market just as fast. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) this week revealed its market research outlook for the tablet market in the coming quarter. The report shows that 41% of “online U.S. consumers” already own a tablet. A further 40% intend to purchase a cheap tablets within the next two years, and 72% plan to purchase a tablet at some point.

Many U.S. consumers appear to be waiting until the fall to make their tablet purchases, though. New tablet lineups from Amazon and Apple are expected for the holiday season. Google just this month unveiled its refreshed Nexus 7 tablet.“Tablets faced a relatively stagnant second quarter in 2013, after several consecutive quarters of strong growth,” said Kevin Tillmann, a senior research analyst at CEA. “However, an increase in consumers’ purchase intent indicates optimism. Many consumers are waiting for the next generation of models to upgrade their existing devices.”

The CEA report also covered how U.S. consumers are using their tablets. Gaming has now surpassed social networking as the top tablet activity. Watching movies and messaging were the second and third most popular tablet pastimes, with social networking and shopping also making the top five.

“With nearly half of U.S. households expected to own a tablet in the next 12 to 18 months, tablets are undeniably impacting how consumers view and enjoy digital content,” said Tillmann. “As we move through 2013, anticipation runs high this year for the next wave of android 4.0 tablet to include new and innovative features. Striking the right chord with consumers’ expectations will be imperative to resuming the growth trends we’ve seen prior to this quarter’s purchase stagnation.”dfdWG4fa

Air Gesture S4 Smartphone ownership way up, Canadians addicted to their phones-Priceangels.com

Not only is Air Gesture smartphone ownership way up in Canada, users are getting increasingly addicted to their mobile devices, suggests a new report released by Google.Based on online surveys with 1,000 Canadians earlier this year, the report estimates that 56 per cent of adults were using a smartphone, up from 33 per cent in early 2012.

About eight in 10 smartphone owners said they don't leave home without their mobile device. And two-thirds of them said they had used their phone every day in the past week.About 35 per cent said they'd become so reliant on mobile connectivity that they'd give up TV before having to part with their smartphone.About 78 per cent of the smartphone users said they connected to social media with their device and 52 per cent said they logged on daily.

Morris said he was struck by the number of users who reported they were watching video on their phone. About 75 per cent said they had streamed video on their small screen and almost one in five said they did it daily. The average smartphone user had 30 apps installed on their device and had used an average of 12 in the past month. They had paid for an average of eight apps.

As Samsung proved with its Galaxy Note Air Gesture S4 smartphones, there is a market for extra-large smartphones, sometimes dubbed “phablets.” Other smartphones manufacturers, including Motorola, LG, and HTC have jumped into the product category, releasing devices with screens larger that 5-inches. Now it appears that BlackBerry and Nokia are also looking to release phones with extra-large screens.

Just over one in four smartphone users had made an online purchase with their device. Of those users, about half had made a purchase in the past month and the same number said they shopped on their phone at least once a month. Not only is smartphone ownership way up in Canada, users are getting increasingly addicted to their mobile devices, suggests a new report released by Google.cdf5SFs4

E-Cigarette EGO CE4 Technology Patent Portfolio Acquisition Opportunities-Priceangels.com

According to Wall Street estimates, U.S. e-cigarette retail sales are expected to grow from $500 million in 2012 to $1 billion in 2013, and eclipse U.S. traditional cigarette market sales within the next decade. Further, a steadily increasing portion of income from this emerging market will be from CE4 e-cigarette accessories such as the cartridges that hold the required e-cigarette operating fluid known as "e-juice" or "e-liquid."

The portfolio for sale describes improved e-cigarette technology designed to have an appearance, taste, and aroma identical to that of tobacco cigarettes. This e-cigarette generates visible and dense smoke and includes aerosol chambers with valves to control the amount of smoke inhaled by users. Additional substances such as fragrances, nicotine, and pharmaceuticals can be included in the e-cigarette that may provide assistance in the cessation of smoking.

This IP package includes electronic cigarettes with a sealed tank cartridge design. The e-liquid in the tank cartridge remains pure as it does not mix with the heated wires and smoldering points of the e-cigarette, preventing the inhalation of lead or contact with potentially harmful vapors. The liquid used by the disclosed cigarette does not evaporate quickly, and remains fresh for up to three years; compared to only a few months for similar products on the market.

Smokeless & Heatless EGO CE4: The unique smoking substitute offered in this portfolio operates using inhaled air rather than cartridges or batteries that require replacement, making it more cost-effective than existing e-cigarettes. Plus, this smokeless cigarette can be used anywhere without restriction as it does not emit any smoke, mist, or odor.cdf5SFs4

PS 679 – Electronic Cigarette "E-Juice" Cartridge Refill: The patent for sale offers a safe and effective solution for refilling electronic cigarette e-juice with precision dispensing that can be made for 1/10 the cost of current refill technology. Designed to work with existing electronic cigarette systems, the dispenser is a pre-filled, hermetically sealed pipette with a precise, long-neck dropper and soft squeeze bulb for control of dispensing even the smallest singular drops of e-juice.

Electronic cigarettes are technically smoke free, but some businesses and health experts are drawing the line to put them out."Electronic cigarettes, to me, is smoking. It's the same thing, it's the same type of scene it is. In all our restaurants where we have non-smoking areas, it will be non-smoking for electronic cigarettes," says Eau Claire restaurant owner Lisa Aspenson.

“A lot of people are switching to e-cigarettes as smoking cessation devices, “ said Prue Talbot, the director of the UCR Stem Cell Center and Behar’s advisor. “A significant percentage of pregnant women are interested in trying these devices as alternatives to cigarette smoking.”

Behar has a strong interest in learning the effects of e-cigarette use on early prenatal development. As a result, she will also study e-cigarette aerosols on adult lung cell lines and compare their effects with early stages of human development, the ultimate goal being to make ego cigarette more effective smoking cessation devices. “I have had an interest in smoking cessation and tobacco-related disease as far back as I can remember,” she said.

FDA Updates Q88 Android Tablet Labeling to Limit Usage-Priceangels.com

The labeling for the antifungal product tablet (ketoconazole; Janssen) tablets has been updated to include warnings indicating that the drug can cause severe liver injuries and adrenal gland problems. It has also been linked to harmful drug interactions with other medications.

Limitation of the usage of android 8 inch android tablet by removing indications in which the risk outweighs the benefits. The use of ketoconazole tablets in Candida and dermatophyte infections is no longer indicated. android tablets should be used only when other antifungal drugs are not available or tolerated by the patient. (Boxed Warning, Warnings, Precautions, and Indications and Usage sections)

android tablets are indicated only for the treatment of the following fungal infections: blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, chromomycosis, and paracoccidioidomycosis in patients in whom other treatments have failed or who are intolerant to other therapies (Indications and Usage section).android tablets are not indicated for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin or nails.A new contraindication that android tablets should not be used in patients with acute or chronic liver disease (Contraindications section).

The fact that both tablets have been made by Asus won’t ease the competition. The company recently upgraded its Fonepad tablet and now the Intel-powered slate has a faster processor and enhanced storage of 32GB. Right off the bat, the Fonepad has one leg up on the Nexus 7, which will most likely be launched in a 16GB avatar in India. Tablets are fast becoming the go-to option for media consumption on the go and the extra storage will certainly help Fonepad get more interest. sfk4FSs

One major advantage for the Fonepad is the fact that it has voice calling, which seems to be a popular spec point for many tablet buyers. Another point in the Fonepad’s favour is the larger battery – 4,270 mAh vs the Nexus 7’s 3950 mAh battery. Both are rated for 10 hours of use, but we think real world experience will be different and the lower resolution and the (relatively) under-powered processor will help the Fonepad.

In terms of design, there’s not much separating both tablets, but the dimensions of the Nexus 7 (200 x 114 x 8.6mm) are more suited for one-handed handling than the Fonepad (196.4 x 120.1 x 10.4 mm) since the Google tablet is narrower and thinner. The matte black back of the Nexus 8 will also be more palatable to all tastes than the Fonepad’s champagne gold and silver trims.

The Samsung tablet sports a 5MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front camera. The Nexus 7’s back camera has the same megapixel count and performance should be more or less in the same territory. The front-facing camera on the Nexus 7 is a slightly lower 1.2-megapixel unit, but we reckon the slight difference won’t be noticeable in video calls.

The battery of the Q88 Android Tablet once again comes up short and this could be a real problem area for the tablet as we are seeing smaller tablets come with large battery these days. The Samsung device has a healthy 4450 mAh battery and coupled with the lower resolution display and the dual-core processor, the battery should ideally be much better than the Nexus 7’s.

Where are Samsung’s high resolution cheap tablets-Priceangels.com

Most people would agree that behind battery life and performance, the display is the most important component in a mobile device. Even more so in a tablet, where the display is especially crucial. A screen resolution which looks great on a 4.5-inch smartphone won’t pull off the same effect on a 10-inch tablet. The main reason for that is something called pixels per-inch (PPI).

The iPad 3’s Retina Display set a bar for other cheap tablets to reach with a pixel density of 264 PPI, but then the Nexus 10 surpassed it with its 300 PPI display. On Thursday, the new Nexus 7 beat them all into a submission with its 323 PPI screen, so we are left a little perplexed by the lack of a high-resolution tablet from Samsung, the biggest Android OEM.

It’s possible that Samsung simply believes that the Android tablet market just isn’t worth investing too much into and that the only way to beat the iPad is to undercut it and join in on the “race to the bottom”. Now that means that the costly high-resolution display is usually the first one to go.

Samsung is rumored to be working on a 12-inch Android tablet with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, but it won’t break any records with its slightly larger display size. The fact that Samsung’s high-end smartphones pack higher display resolutions (Full HD 1920 x 1080) into significantly smaller form factors doesn’t bode well for Samsung.

Samsung’s competitors aren’t standing still in the tablet domain either. Sony already has a Full-HD display on its Xperia Tablet Z, and Asus is packing a 2560 x 1600 display on its 10-inch Transformer Pad Infinity. Samsung needs to improve its tablet offerings ASAP if it wants to continue growing its tablet market share, because its current offerings are mediocre at best.sfk4FSs

What do you think of Samsung’s current tablets for sale offerings? Does Samsung need to offer a high-resolution tablet?Yes, absolutely, they need to improve the res on their tablets. It's not like most of their tablets are priced that cheaply either, so the low resolution certainly could be a determining factor for a lot of people, who will just get an iPad instead when they hear the Galaxy Tab or Note has much less pixels.

Even the Toshiba Excite Pro has a much better screen resolution. Samsung could at least put a 1920 x 1200 screen on their tablets. And as you say it's not like their tablets are cheaper than others. With that resolution, and an Exynos 5 Octa processor, it would have the power and resolution to run just about any two apps side by side, if not more. I like to see side-by side plus the overlay on LG phones. That would make this tablet the best business tablet

Samsung and Apple Successfully Fend Off Low-Cost GT-I9300 Smartphone Vendors-Priceangels.com

For the second calendar quarter in a row, GT-I9300 smartphone shipments represented more than half (52%) of the world’s mobile phone shipments. Led by electronics manufacturer Samsung, an estimated 408 million handsets and 214 million smartphones shipped during the second quarter of 2013, according to market intelligence firm ABI Research. Feature phone shipments declined 20% year-over-year to 195 million units as low-cost manufacturers continue to claw their way up-market with increased device specifications.

Due to typical seasonality gains at mid-year, handset shipments grew 0.5% sequentially and more than 7% year-over-year. Smartphone shipments maintained a healthy growth rate of 5.5% sequentially and nearly 44% year-over-year. “Despite concerns of premium tier smartphone saturation, both Samsung and Apple were able to deliver better than expected results in the second quarter,” says senior analyst Michael Morgan.

The high end of the smartphone market continued to perform well in 2Q as Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhones outpaced the overall market. Despite the surprising tenacity of premium smartphones, Apple’s market share (14.6%) dropped to its lowest point since 3Q’2011. ABI Research attributes this share loss to the success of the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch and the continued growth of low cost and mass market smartphone shipments.

As competitors such as Huawei, ZTE and Lenovo move their GT-I9500 S4 smartphone portfolios upstream, ABI Research expects increasing margin pressure on the premium smartphone segment where the majority of industry profits reside. These findings are part of ABI Research’s Mobile Handset Markets service, which includes detailed smartphone and mobile handset shipments, forecasts, and market share.gff45DG3s

“This timely launch of the Huawei Ascend P6, our latest flagship smartphone, is a firm demonstration of our commitment to growing the brand and our market share in this country”, said Huawei Malaysia Country Head Consumer Business Group Gary Xu at the smartphone launching ceremony here today.

Leading mobile phone chip maker Qualcomm said on July 25 that the next generation of smartphones will take another stride forward as the company reported robust quarterly earnings. "We still think the next smartphone is going to surprise you with the things it can do," Qualcomm director of CPU product management Travis Lanier told reporters. "There is a way to go in innovation."

The "system-on-a-chip" design of Snapdragon allows for N7100+ Note 3 smartphones or tablets to be designed with features such as playback of ultra high-definition video or surround-sound in headsets plugged into devices. A 'Quantified Self' movement driven by wearable computers such as wristbands or pendants with sensors that relay information to increasingly sophisticated smartphones or tablets is weaving the devices even deeper into lives.

When will your i9500 S4 1:1 smartphone get Android 4.3-Priceangels.com

Now that Google has released Android 4.3, so begins the agonizing process of figuring out which i9500 S4 phones and tablets will get the upgrade, and when. Not surprisingly, most Android phone makers are being cagey about their upgrade plans. It's often assumed that the major bottlenecks in the upgrade process are due to software customizations that carriers and phone makers add on top of stock Android. But as Sony's blog post explains, hardware is also a major piece of the puzzle, because phone makers need to spend time making sure all the components of their handsets work properly with Google's software.

If it's any consolation, Android 4.3 isn't a major upgrade, and many of Android 4.3's features are already available on state-of-the-art phones like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. Those phones, for instance, already support OpenGL ES 3.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy. The fact that Android 4.3 now supports these features just means they'll come standard in many more phones to come.gff45DG3s

The biggest Android 4.3 feature that users might want is Restricted Profiles, which will allow parents to create kid-friendly user profiles on their phones or tablets. But considering that many phones—including the HTC One—are still stuck on Android 4.1, any sort of upgrade at this point would be welcome. Like always, all we can do is wait.

Despite positive quarterly results from Apple and Samsung, it is clear that smartphone sales growth in developed economies is leveling off. The next wave of growth will come from emerging markets, which is why Apple, for example, is as focused on developing a high quality, but lower cost device for Asia and Latin/South America as it is on the next wow-factor phone for the U.S. and other developed countries. We are in a new, market segmentation mode for smartphones: devices for different price points, and screen size choices to meet form factor preferences.

I'd argue that there has not been a "must have" new device for quite some time. Witness how sales of the iPhone 4/4S have held up so well despite the fact that the iPhone 5 (whose main distinguishing feature is LTE) has been available for nearly a year. There have been loads of other high-end devices launched over the past year, but none have been of the "change your life, pay the ETF, pawn your existing phone off on your spouse or kid" variety. Fact is, any mid-tier or better smartphone in the market today is pretty fabulous.

i9500 S4 1:1 smartphones bear a resemblance to the commoditized PC market. Plus, there has been a lot effort among OEMs to somehow combine the PC and tablet form factors. But there's an unnaturalness to that. There's actually a greater convergence between the phone and tablet (look at the relatively narrow difference between the large screen phone and the small screen tablet). Might there be a device that effectively combines the best of both?

TUSD board votes to ban EGO CE4 e-cigarettes for everyone-Priceangels.com

Students, staff and members of the public can no longer smoke CE4 e-cigarettes on school grounds in the Tucson Unified School District. The TUSD Governing Board approved the ban Tuesday night on a 3-2 vote, adding the device to a list of prohibited tobacco-related items. Board members Mark Stegeman and Michael Hicks opposed the ban.

The policy update was brought forth not because there has been an onslaught of students using e-cigarettes, but rather in an effort to get with the times, TUSD said.Stegeman opposed prohibiting students from using e-cigarettes, saying the devices have "legitimate therapeutic value." He advocated allowing usage in designated areas, a suggestion Board President Adelita Grijalva said she was uncomfortable with.

TUSD Superintendent H.T. Sanchez noted it is the school district's job to "promote good behavior and practice," adding that he does not want TUSD to be known for allowing e-cigarette usage.Stegeman had no problem prohibiting staff members from using electronic cigarettes, saying they chose to work for the district.Possession or use of electronic cigarettes by a student could result in suspension or expulsion if there is evidence of repeated violations.

Staff members could face disciplinary action, including termination, for failing to comply; members of the public could face a petty offense. While e-cigarettes are being treated like tobacco under the TUSD policy, there is no tobacco in the devices. Some do, however, contain nicotine.sty5Dqdf3

The nicotine-free devices - which look just like those that do contain nicotine - can be purchased by children, creating a problem for authorities who wouldn't be able to tell the difference.TUSD is joining a number of other entities that have prohibited e-cigarettes, including Pima County.

Because e-cigarettes are relatively new, there are safety concerns that have yet to be addressed. The levels of nicotine in the devices are not consistent across brands, and the vapors created by igniting the fluids in the e-cigarettes have not been tested for safety.TUSD Superintendent H.T. Sanchez noted it is the school district's job to "promote good behavior and practice," adding that he does not want TUSD to be known for allowing e-cigarette usage.

In a statement issued July 9, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised concerns over the sale of EGO CE4 e-cigarettes to minors.E-cigarettes, WHO said, “are offered in flavors that can be particularly attractive to adolescents.”Sellers counter that the price range of each unit does not make e-cigarettes easily accessible to adolescents. Besides, PECIA prohibits sale to minors.

Slowing Demand For Pricey i9500 S4 1:1 Smartphones Clouds Outlook-Priceangels.com

Rising competition from other manufacturers such as Samsungalong with fears that the high-end i9500 S4 smartphone market is nearing saturation have weighed heavily on the company’s shares, magnified by the uncertainty that has always surrounded Apple AAPL -1.76%’s future product launches.
Specifically with the iPhone driving almost 50% of the company’s value, we will be interested in seeing what the demand for the iPhone 5 has been in two quarters after its launch in the face of competition from Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy S4. Smartphone upgrades have been a key driver of smartphone sales and are slowing down, according to a recent UBS report.
Slowing Demand For Pricey i9500 S4 1:1 Smartphones Clouds Outlook
Last year, 68 million people in the U.S. upgraded their smartphones down by about 9% over 2011. The same seems to be taking a toll on Samsung as well whose earnings guidance for the June quarter came in below already modest analyst expectations. Considering that Q3 has traditionally been a slow quarter for Apple, iPhone sales are likely to see a sequential decline. But the y-o-y growth or decline will be key to understanding the resilience of iPhone demand in a high-end smartphone market that is nearing saturation.fd5aDJK6

The saturation being seen at the high-end of the market shows that Apple needs to tap the smartphone growth in emerging markets such as China better. Despite being only in the early stages of smartphone adoption, China has already pulled ahead of the U.S. as the world’s largest i9500 S4 1:1 smartphone market by volume. This is an incredible statistic given that 3G penetration in China is in the mid-20s currently. Considering the huge 2G subscriber base of more than 850 million that the Chinese carriers are looking to upgrade to 3G, the potential for Apple to ride the boom is huge.

The curved back is similar to that of the Lumia 720, and the screen is rounded at the edge, like the high-end Lumia 920 -- a nice touch that we wouldn't expect on a budget phone. Overall it reminds us of the bargain-tastic Lumia 620, although our first impression is that the screen isn't as sharp and bright as the 620's impressive display. And at 201 pixels per inch, it shows off half the detail of more expensive but similarly sized phones, like the Galaxy S4.

The 625 hits shop shelves in early September in the U.K., when it'll cost a very affordable 200 pounds, depending on who you buy it from. You can choose from Vodafone or O2; 4G network EE; or at retailers Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse. The three phones introduced Tuesday are the $199 Droid Ultra, which executives touted as the world’s thinnest LTE smartphone; the $299 Droid Maxx, which boasts 48 hours of battery life; and the $99 Droid Mini, which has a 4.3-inch screen.

Do the job of holding a 10 inch android tablet in place-Priceangels.com

Constructed of metal and tough plastics, the PanaVise line of Portagrip 10 inch android tablet mounts are as durable as they come. But the 15509 Portagrip also shows they can accommodate some extreme applications. This particular tablet mount, intended to suction cup to a windshield, incorporates a very long, extendable arm, making it suitable for cars with very wide dashboards, recreational vehicles, or construction equipment.

The tablet clamp is the same piece that PanaVise uses across its line of Portagrip mounts. This clamp has a soft backing, so as not to mar any 10 inch android tablet placed in its care. The short, or bottom end of the clamp, has two little feet that swivel so they can be pushed out of the way.

Two spring-loaded ratcheting arms do the job of holding a 10 inch android tablet in place.

At the press of a button, the arms pop out, opening up to a 3.75-inch width. That means it will easily hold a Samsung Galaxy S4, and even smaller tablets. After placing a 10 inch android tablet between the clamp arms of the 15508 PortaGrip, push them together and they ratchet closed, holding the 10 inch android tablet firmly in place.

With the 15509 PortaGrip suction-cupped to a windshield, I found I could operate the clamp with one hand, simultaneously holding my tablet against its soft backing and squeezing the clamp arms together. Pushing the button to pop open the arms, I quickly learned to keep a grip on the tablet, lest it fall out and hide under the car's seat.fd5aDJK6

Given the design of the clamp arms, this mount is intended to hold a tablet in a vertical position. The gimbal allows it to be swiveled to horizontal, and tabs on the clamp arm can be moved to grip the tablet closer to its center, but the narrowness of those tabs made for a questionable horizontal hold.

For a passenger car with a wide dashboard, the PanaVise 15509 Portagrip would be too unwieldy as a 10 inch android tablet holder. The long arm would put the tablet in reach of the driver, but it also puts a thick, metal tube running straight out from the windshield towards the driver. This mount would work better in a larger vehicle with a big cab, or even a boat.

The carrier unveiled the sleek Kevlar-encased Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini Q88 Android Tablet , with all three boasting the bleeding-edge features today’s top-shelf handsets require. The latest Droid trio will be available on August 20, with pre-orders starting immediately.According to Verizon, the Droid Maxx will be the longest lasting 4G LTE tablet powered by a 3500 mAH battery. That sort of energy source should keep the tablet running for 48 hours of mixed usage.

The three new Droids also share a lot of advanced digital goodies that will make any tabletophile drool. Start with the basics: Each tablet will run on Jellybean 4.2 and carry 16GB of onboard storage running with 2GB of RAM. Each tablet boasts a 10-megapixel back-facing camera as well as a 2-megapixel front camera and 720p AMOLED display. These new Droids can all boast a 24-percent faster CPU, a 100-percent faster GPU, and twice the RAM of last year’s bunch.

A Rising Addiction Among Youths: Air Gesture S4 Smartphones-Priceangels.com

Lee Yun-soo has some regrets that she replaced her faded old clamshell phone with a Air Gesture smartphone six months ago.The South Korean high-school student enjoys tweeting funny photos, messaging friends and playing online games. But she said her smartphone is increasingly disrupting her life at school and home."I hate doing it but I can't help it," she said as she fiddled with the palm-size gadget.
A Rising Addiction Among Youths: Air Gesture S4 Smartphones

Ms. Lee is among the roughly 1 in 5 students in South Korea who the government said is addicted to smartphone use. This addiction is defined as spending more than seven hours a day using the phone and experiencing symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia and depression when cut off from the device.

With a mobile-phone penetration rate of more than 100%—meaning some individuals carry more than one handset—and smartphones nearly two-thirds of those devices, the government is setting measures to deal with the problems such heavy exposure has spawned. For comparison, the smartphone penetration rate in the U.S. was 50% as of June, according to the International Telecommunication Union.

Now that smartphone penetration among teens and children is rising at a faster pace than other groups, the age at which people find it hard to wean themselves from a smartphone is getting lower.

The smartphone penetration rate in children ages 6 to 19 tripled to 65% last year from a year earlier, according to the Korea Communications Commission. Meanwhile, the smartphone addiction rate among teens was 18%, double the addiction rate of 9.1% for adults, according to another government survey. According to the Pew Research Center, 37% of teens in the U.S. had smartphones in 2012.dr4sbfvcD

It is standard practice in Korean schools for teachers to collect mobile devices from their students during school hours—with patchy success. "Some of them hide their phones and use them during the break or even in class," said Lee Kyoung-shin, a high-school teacher in Incheon, west of Seoul.

Air Gesture S4 Smartphones are often the most important possession for a young person, said Ms. Tamura of Tokyo Seitoku University. "It represents their connection to their friends. Not participating could mean exclusion from a circle of friends, so we always find that children are terribly anxious to respond to messages," she said.

Smartphone one-upmanship has led to incidents of bullying in Korean schools, where a 12-stage smartphone ranking sets the latest models as "kings" and earlier models as "slaves." Theft is common, said Kim Hoi-kyung, a school supervisor at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. The office in June decided to provide up to 20 million won ($17,830) per school this year to help teachers pay for losses of smartphones in their possession.

Lee Yun-soo, the 18-year-old high-school student, has found a way to avoid the distraction of her smartphone during exam periods: She removes the SIM card, which stores phone numbers, from her Android phone and inserts it into an older, Internet-disabled phone."I keep asking myself: 'Why did I buy a Air Gesture i9500 S4 smartphone?' Sometimes I stay up all night using Facebook and tweeting. After switching to a smartphone, I quickly became addicted." she said.

Ubuntu Edge GT-I9300 Smartphone Announced in £20m Crowd-Funding Campaign-Priceangels.com

Launched on 22 July, the Indiegogo campaign has already reached $400,000 from more than 600 contributors, and the company hopes to use the $32m raised to design, produce and deliver the phone by May 2014.

The Ubuntu Edge is hoped to be the most powerful and feature-packed GT-I9300 smartphone ever made. Although plans for the phone have not yet been finalised, the Ubuntu team want it to have a 4.5in display - however they say pixel density does not need to go beyond 300 per inch - and be powered by "the fastest available multi-core processor," with at least 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage - more than any smartphone on sale today.

Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu, said the Edge smartphone is "the ultimate convergence device - challenging established norms for PCs and smartphones. The crowdfunding approach is a new way to prove demand for cutting edge technologies and new classes of device; supporting the Ubuntu Edge is the best way to catalyse the next generation of personal devices from industry."

Shuttleworth likens the GT-I9500 S4 smartphone industry to the motor industry, stating that while car manufacturers have Formula One as a testbed to try out new technologies, smartphone makers do not, so they hold back and only develop products which they know will be a mainstream success.

For $600 - but only on the 22 July launch date - funders will receive their own Ubuntu Edge once the device has entered production next year, while $830 is the regular price for the phone once the discounted initial offer ends. Finally, for $80,000 backers will receive 100 Ubuntu Edge smartphones for use in their company, plus access to practice workshops and 30 days of online support to help IT managers integrate Ubuntu for Android into the workplace.dr4sbfvcD

Canonical has announced it is seeking crowdfunding for its Ubuntu Edge smartphone that will run its Ubuntu Linux distribution.Canonical already announced its plan to put its popular Ubuntu Linux distribution on smartphones, but now the firm has shown off rendered designs for its own showpiece smartphone that when docked becomes a thin client. The firm's Ubuntu Edge smartphone project is seeking $32m (£21.5m) in crowdfunding before it will see the light of day.

Canonical's Ubuntu Edge N7100+ Note 3 smartphone has very rough specifications, with the firm hoping that the rendered design will be enough to tempt users to part with $600 for a handset on the first day and $830 for the remaining 30 days. The firm said that the smartphone will have a 4.5in HD 720p high resolution screen, a multi-core processor, at least 4GB of RAM and an 8MP front camera, and said that the device will be able to dual-boot Ubuntu Linux and Google's Android mobile operating system.

Frequent Air Gesture S4 Smartphone Use Linked to Poor Fitness-Priceangels.com

At 65 per cent, Air Gesture smartphone penetration here has doubled since 2011, putting Australia nine percentage points ahead of the US and in front of Britain, France or Germany, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos MediaCT for Google. Of those surveyed,41 per cent said they had spent more time online with their smartphone over the past six months, compared with 34 per cent of US respondents, and three in four said they were loath to leave home without it.

Frequent Air Gesture S4 Smartphone Use Linked to Poor Fitness

Our passion for smartphones is changing the way we shop, with 68 per cent of Australian users saying they had researched a product or service on their device and two-thirds saying they had used it to buy something, up from just 28 per cent last year. As well as searching for products on their phones, 51 per cent had used them to find a restaurant, bar or pub, 47 per cent to search for travel information and 34 per cent to look up apartment or real estate details.

People who constantly exercise their thumbs by using their smartphones could ultimately be harming their physical health.A new study by researchers at Kent State University found a link between heavy cellphone use and reduced fitness levels among college students.Researchers Andrew Lepp and Jacob E. Barkley, associate professors in Kent State's College of Education, Health and Human Services, found college students who reported the highest cellphone use -- averaging 14 hours a day -- were less fit than those who used the devices less often.

"There's no 'phone potato' term, but maybe there should be," Barkley said. "We're just scratching the surface here. I don't think they think about the consequences of sitting and playing with your phone."Brent Gray Jr. 19, of Cincinnati, admits he would likely be a "phone junkie" if he didn't train as a member of the University of Akron's track team. The first thing he does when he wakes up is check his Air Gesture S4 phone for texts and updates from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine and Snapchat, all popular social media Relevant Products/Services. He estimates he spends at least 12 hours each day using his iPhone.ff5DF45s

"Without my phone, I don't think I'd know what to do with myself," he said. "Without my phone, I'd be disconnected from the world."Though he stays physically active through track, Gray said he understands how people's lives could become consumed with their smartphones."Two hours could go by and you don't even know it," he said.

Lepp and Barkley decided to conduct the study to see whether using cellphones -- despite their portability -- shared the same ties to inactivity as playing traditional video games and watching TV."There's been evidence that those types of behaviors that are defined as sedentary are inversely related to fitness," Barkley said. "The phones now, especially the smartphones, offer access to all those behaviors we have defined as sedentary." The researchers surveyed more than 300 Kent State students about their cellphone use and broke them into three categories: low users who averaged 101 minutes daily, moderate users averaging 283 minutes and high users averaging 840 minutes."If you were someone who used the phone a lot," Barkley said, "you were less fit."

One explanation: Frequent Air Gesture i9500 S4 cellphone users were more likely to report missing out on physical activities such as walking, running, swimming, working out or playing basketball, soccer, football, lacrosse or racquetball to use their devices."I think that high cellphone use could be indicative of a broader array of sedentary behaviors," Barkley said.

Results were published recently by the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.Brandon Schillig, 22, of North Canton, Ohio, said he tries to find a balance when it comes to his new iPhone. The University of Akron senior estimates he uses the smartphone several hours a day.

EGO CE4 E-cig bill called a ‘Trojan horse’-Priceangels.com

On the surface, the bill looks simple enough — prohibit those under age 18 from purchasing alternative nicotine products such as electronic cigarettes.Anti-smoking advocates say that below the surface of House Bill 144 is a tobacco-industry-crafted “Trojan horse” designed to ensure that the emerging CE4 electronic-cigarette market and other alternative nicotine products remain taxed at a lower rate than traditional cigarettes and stay outside the state’s indoor smoking ban.

“What they’re trying to do is carve out a new definition that will muddy the waters for many other tobacco products now, and new and emerging products that we don’t know about yet,” Stephens said. The bill was brought to Rep. Stephanie Kunze, R-Hilliard, by Lorillard Tobacco Co., the nation’s third-largest cigarette manufacturer, which also purchased e-cigarette company Blu in July 2012. Ohio’s current tobacco laws do not cover e-cigarettes.

“We set about closing this loophole in Ohio and other states as Lorillard strongly believes that electronic cigarettes are for adult recreational use only,” Kurt Leib, Midwest representative for the company, told lawmakers in May.E-cigarettes look similar to cigarettes, but when the user inhales, the device heats up nicotine-infused liquid inside, releasing a vapor that is inhaled and then exhaled. The vapor is largely odorless, and the cigarettes come in a variety of flavors, including chocolate, cotton candy and Dr Pepper.ff5DF45s

Boston University researchers have concluded that “few, if any, chemicals at levels detected in electronic cigarettes raise serious health concerns.” Researchers also found that the products may help smokers stop using regular cigarettes.Lincoln Chafee last week vetoed a similar, but somewhat more-restrictive bill, calling it “counterproductive to prohibit sales to children while simultaneously exempting electronic cigarettes from laws concerning regulation, enforcement, licensing or taxation.”

Other states passed EGO CE4 e-cigarette access bills before the American Cancer Society became aware of the national push. Stephens and Kiser said they have proposed a simpler way to block the sale of e-cigarettes to minors without creating a new category of alternative nicotine products.Kunze, pointing to a recent legal opinion from the non-partisan Legislative Service Commission, argues that the bill does not change the current tax status of e-cigarettes, and that nothing would stop advocates from pushing for a higher tax rate in the future.

Cathy Callaway, associate director of state and local campaigns for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, agrees, but she said the bill sets the stage for treating e-cigarettes differently from other tobacco products.Asked if e-cigarettes should be taxed the same as regular cigarettes, Kunze said: “I don’t think there is enough information yet.

Air Gesture S4 smartphone expected at next week's Verizon event-Priceangels.com

Several Air Gesture smartphone launches are imminent, including next Tuesday's Verizon Wireless event in New York City to unveil what the carrier's calling "the next generation of one of their most popular family of devices."

Other smartphones expected for fall sales include the iPhone 5S, the Moto X from Google, and the LG Optimus 2.Some analysts have claimed that because everyone already owns a smartphone, growth is slowing in the industry. While this may be the case, it’s still truly staggering to consider how many smartphones are being sold right now. Horace Dediu of Asymco cited recent comScore results that revealed 98 million Americans above the age of 13 still don’t use smartphones, representing 41% of mobile phone users in the United States.

He went on to note that 2.5 million more people started using smartphones in the three-month period ending in May, compared to the three months leading up to the end of April. This means roughly 583,000 people in the U.S. are buying smartphones for the first time each week, an increase from an average of 572,000 smartphone purchases per week over the past 41 months. Dediu explained that “the rate of adoption of smartphones is not slowing in any perceptible way,” adding that the U.S. market is clearly not saturated.

According to UBS analyst John Hodulik most every American has a smartphone, and that, along with slowing smartphone upgrades, doesn’t bode well for Air Gesture S4 smartphone manufacturers. But is that really the case?Nope, says Asymco’s Horace Dediu, who points to recent comScore survey data as evidence that there’s plenty of room left for growth in the U.S. smartphone market. According to comScore, 41 percent of U.S. mobile phone users don’t yet own a smartphone. That’s 98 million people (over the age of 13).sdM6Scfs

Almost 60 percent smartphone penetration in the U.S. is hardly a saturated market, though it’s clearly headed in that direction. As Dediu observes, smartphone adoption rates in the country remain high, with nearly 583,000 consumers switching to smartphones each week.

Globally, there’s even more room for growth. Smartphone penetration isn’t even half of what it is in the States. Indeed, according to IHS, worldwide smartphone shipments this year will hit 897 million units, up from 712 million in 2012. And by 2017 they are expected to hit 1.5 billion.

Amazingly, the cell can create enough power to charge a smartphone—at least a little. One, um, "session" of charging provides enough power for a phone call. But hey, that's a great start, and over time the hope is to shrink the cells down and produce them for less than $1—which should make them ideal for use in developing countries. And, you know, people who pee a lot.

Citing an unnamed source, Reuters said NEC is looking at other options, including finding another partner other than Lenovo and getting out of the Air Gesture i9500 S4 smartphone business completely, focusing its efforts instead on its feature phone portfolio. According to the Nikkei and Reuters reports, NEC officials had proposed Lenovo taking a majority stake in NEC Casio Mobile Communications, the subsidiary that makes smartphones and includes Casio and Hitachi. The tech giant, which holds about a 70 percent stake in NEC Casio, is looking to remove itself from the highly competitive smartphone business in hopes of saving money.

Doesn't Own The i9500 S4 1:1 Smartphone Market Any More-Priceangels.com

This isn’t exactly an original observation, that Apple AAPL 0% doesn’t any longer own the i9500 S4 smartphone market in quite the way that it once did. But we’ve another little set of stories, leading up to the results, that show that the process is continuing. For example, none of the three major networks in Russia now offer the Apple iPhone as a standard choice.

But 10 months later, there’s not an iPhone to be had at any of the big three carriers’ stores. Last week the last hold-out — VimpleCom, which sells phones under the Beeline brand — cut its ties with Apple (AAPL) and began offering its customers Samsung’s Galaxy S4 instead.Between January and March, Apple sold some 120,000 iPhones in India, down from the 230,000 in the October-December quarter of last year, according to IDC. That translated into its share falling from 4.7% to 2.1%.

At the same time, iOS market share grew from 2% to 6.2% in Brazil, but actually declined from 8.6% to 4.7% in Mexico. Android vendors have recently gone on a price cutting binge in Latin America, slashing prices of smartphones to well below 300 reals in Brazil. The iPhone pricing in Brazil levitates around 2’000-3’000 reals. A subsidized model coming bundled with an expensive monthly plan can be had for 1’200 reals.

Apple might need to make some hard choices about emerging market product pricing very soon or face the prospect of Samsung building a 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 volume advantage in the global smartphone race. Samsung’s massive 50 million unit quarterly smartphone unit volume is already giving it an advantage in component sourcing and economies of scale will benefit Samsung more each quarter it extends its global lead.

Fewer people are upgrading their smartphones—a trend that could make it harder for companies from AT&T T +0.22% Inc. to Apple Inc. to keep up the pace of revenue growth.sdM6Scfs

The rates at which American cellphone users have traded in their devices for more advanced models have declined over the last few years, according to analysts at UBS UBS +1.18% AG. They turned negative last year, when about 68 million people upgraded their phones in the U.S., down more than 9% from a year earlier.

The problem with this is that most of the current population who are likely to get a smartphone already have one. And if they’re not upgrading like they used to then all that’s really left is replacement devices for those that wear out (figure a 5 year cycle for this) and then just demographics. It’s not quite that bad but it’s certainly very different from the boom years when 5 or 10% of the population was buying a i9500 S4 1:1 smartphone for the first time each year.

To counter the “damage caused” by “Apple shunning Samsung” for the iPhone 6 processor, the Korean company is developing a processor with an integrated 3G/4G modem for low-cost phones to compete with Qualcomm QCOM +1.23% and MediaTek , the report said. The trade-in programs serve another purpose: They create a source of gently used smartphones that can be sold to customers on the lower end of the spectrum. Low-cost prepaid customers seem to be of increasing interest to the phone carriers.

New 7 inch android tablet may be coming soon as Google schedules a July 24 event- Priceangels.com

Google has sent out invites for a mystery press event next week, just in time for the rumored launch of a new 7 inch android tablet. The invitation for July 24 is billed as a “breakfast with Sundar Pichai,” who became Google’s head of Android in March. Pichai also is still in charge of Chrome and apps.

Although Google gave no indication of what the event is about, it’s likely that the company will announce a new Nexus 7 tablet at the event. A July launch for the tablet has been rumored since April, when Reuters reported that Asus would once again be Google’s manufacturing partner, and that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors would be featured. The two companies reportedly hope to sell more than 8 million of the tablets this year.

Specs for the tablet could include a 7-inch screen with a display resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels (or possibly 1920 by 1080 pixels), a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel rear camera. We may also see wireless charging and a narrower bezel than the current Nexus 7.

However, the price of the tablet is still in question.sdM6Scfs

Google could offer the same pricing as the first Nexus 7--$200 for 16GB and $250 for 32GB--but a new report by Android Central claims higher prices of $229 for 16GB and $269 for 32GB. It’s also unclear whether the original Nexus 7 will stick around at even lower prices.

The latest Ideapad tablet is the latest addition to the existing Ideapad tablet range that includes Lenovo Ideapad tablet A2107 and Lenovo Ideapad tablet Lynx K3011.

The A1000 is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek 8317 processor with 1GB of RAM. It comes with SIM support for voice calling. The tablet sports a 7.0-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels and also includes a 3,500mAh battery that the company claims could deliver around 8 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. The 8 inch android tablet runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. It also includes a front 0.3-megapixel camera to handle video chats. The tablet also features Dolby audio enhancements with dual stereo speakers. The tablet also includes a 4GB storage.

At the price, Lenovo Ideapad A1000 will face competition from the likes of the Asus MemoPad priced at Rs. 7,999, Acer Iconia B1 at Rs. 9250, Micromax Funbook Talk available at Rs. 6,800 and iberry Auxus AX03G with a price tag of Rs. 8,499. The budget tablet segment has seen a number of tablet vendors entering the Indian market and launching tablets with a price tag of sub-Rs. 10,000.

FDA faces important decisions on regulation of EGO CE4 e-cigarettes-Priceangels.com

The FDA faces a dilemma as electronic cigarettes, or CE4 e-cigarettes, grow in popularity, according to researchers. The agency initially tried to block the sale of e-cigarettes, claiming that they were unapproved “drug/device combinations.” Manufacturers successfully challenged the FDA's position, but in a 2010 ruling, a federal appeals court held that e-cigarettes could be regulated by the agency as tobacco products.
In 2010, 11.4% of U.S. smokers report ever using an e-cigarette, and 4.1% report using one within the last 30 days, the most recent data from two surveys that involved more than 6,000 people indicate. In the city of Boston, 28 permits to sell e-cigarettes were given out in June 2013, compared with only three in June 2012.

Yet many of the alleged benefits of e-cigarettes are unproven and tighter regulations to ensure the quality of the product are needed to protect public safety. At the same time more regulation could slow down innovation and production -- delaying the potential benefits a shift away from traditional cigarettes may yield, Neal L. Benowitz, MD, of the University of California San Francisco and Maciej L. Goniewicz, PhD, of Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York, suggested in the Journal of the American Medical Association.fg342GFD

They explained the unknowns, weighed the agency's options and made several recommendations for how to proceed in a Viewpoint published online.First introduced in 2007, e-cigarettes are the latest form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). The mechanism of action is a battery-powered device that heats a nicotine solution, creating an inhalable vapor without burning tobacco products or other toxins usually found in cigarettes.

Other NRT methods include nicotine patches and nicotine gum, but EGO CE4 e-cigarettes have surpassed these methods in popularity as they mimic a real cigarette in appearance and absorption method. E-cigarettes also enable those who want to quit for health reasons to retain smoking culture.

E-cigarette proponents say the product facilitates smoking fewer cigarettes and may help users quit entirely, but a longitudinal analysis using population-level data show no difference in quit rates among e-cigarette users and regular smokers.

"Controlled clinical trials and population-level observational cohort studies are needed to establish the utility of these cigarettes to facilitate smoking cessation. Research is also needed regarding the role of e-cigarettes in harm reduction, including reduced cigarette smoking and associated reduction of tobacco toxicant exposure," Benowitz and Goniewicz recommended.

smaller kind of Windows 8 inch android tablet- Priceangels.com

Acer's Iconia W3 is the first of its kind: an 8 inch android tablet. It marks the start of a new category of smaller Windows tablets that are expected to debut over the coming months. When android originally debuted in October it inspired PC makers to try out various hardware designs, but most focused on 10-inch tablet-like devices. Manufacturers avoided smaller devices in order to support the minimum resolution required for android tablets. Microsoft recently altered that resolution rule, though, and we’re finally able to explore the possibility of an 8-inch Windows tablet.

The Iconia W3 enters a small tablet category that's dominated by devices like the iPad mini and Nexus 7. Does this smaller tablet fare well against the competition? And while at $379 it’s certainly a bargain for a full-fledged Windows PC, is android ready for a new breed of devices? The all-important part of a tablet is its display. It's the sole interaction point for this type of device. Simply put, the W3's display is disgusting. It's shockingly bad in a number of ways.fg342GFD

I have no idea why Acer didn't opt for an IPS display like the ones found in the iPad mini or Nexus 7, but its choice of panel and construction makes the W3 display unusable as a small tablet for reading and content consumption — which are the things 8-inch tablets are best for. It's the worst aspect of the W3, and it's a deal-breaker.One advantage of Windows tablets is that they have accessory support that's not often found on rival Android or iOS devices.

Most of the time I use android tablets I’m almost forced to use them horizontally because of their size and 16:9 aspect ratio. I’ve never found a 10-inch android device that feels comfortable in portrait mode — it’s simply an odd experience. android is surprisingly good on an 7 inch android tablet like the W3. Apps like Internet Explorer and Kindle are great for reading, and the portrait mode of the OS fully supports the Live Tiles by shifting them to display in a different layout.

I’m a moderate tablet user so I didn’t find myself having to charge the W3 that often, and it sits in standby well enough to avoid having to top it up frequently. Performance on the W3 was consistent with other Atom-powered tablets I’ve tested. There’s no way I can recommend the W3 right now, at all. It’s the first 8-inch android tablet, but the hardware sucks. Acer can do so much better here, even for a budget device.

The screen is shockingly bad, and that’s the main way you’ll interact with this device unless you’re set on using it with an optional dock / keyboard or you want to hook it up to a HDMI display. Either way, there are many better devices that work as tablets or notebooks out there right now, and the W3’s only unique offering — its 8-inch screen — is its biggest fault.

Still, the W3 leaves me excited. Not for this device, but for what device makers could create for the 7- and 8-inch Windows form factors. As most of these will debut with android.1, the software quirks will be mostly corrected, and iPad mini-like hardware coupled with android.1 could be an attractive device that I would immediately use. I find myself increasingly less reliant on apps on a small tablet device, instead using it as a reading device like the Kindle.

With official Facebook and Flipboard apps on the way for android.1, it feels like the crucial gaps for these types of devices are being covered. It’s also essential that these small tablets offer some 3G or LTE connectivity as an option. The W3 lacks this, and I’d like to see most 7- and 8-inch Windows tablets offer this in some way.

Ultimately, it might be up to Microsoft to really make this form factor shine. This first effort from Acer is cheap and plasticky, and I can’t help but feel that Microsoft won’t want all these smaller Windows tablets to head down the bargain route. A Surface mini feels inevitable, and with android.1 it will make a lot of sense. For Acer, it’s back to the drawing board. A refreshed W3 with an IPS display would be a good start, and losing some of the unnecessary weight would also help make this device a little more appealing. Hold onto your dollars until we start to see better 7- and 8-inch Windows tablets.

New photos and video show off the 5-inch screen of the upcoming BlackBerry A10, the company’s rumored BlackBerry 10 powerhouse smartphone. The leaked photo of the BlackBerry A10 comes from BGR, and it shows a new BlackBerry smartphone that takes a few design cues from the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. The top half of the phone looks relatively similar to the Air Gesture with a black bezel that extends to the edge of the phone, while the bottom half has a metal strip below the bezel like the HTC One.

A YouTube video of the BlackBerry A10 shows the same device running BlackBerry 10, swiping through apps and launching the Settings app. The phone looks bigger than the BlackBerry Z10 in the hand, which supports the idea that it will have a 5-inch display. The display would make it the largest device yet to run BlackBerry 10.

Unfortunately, while the BlackBerry A10 will likely use a 5-inch display, it will only have a 720p resolution (1280×720). Other phones of its size including the Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z have 1080p displays (1920×1080). Those other phones have a much higher pixel density than the BlackBerry A10 will likely have, making the displays sharper.

The BlackBerry A10 will likely come to market sometime later this year. There are no rumors about pricing or carrier support for the Air Gesture S4 phone yet. If it does come out later this year it will compete with the next iPhone and the next generation of Android phones such as the rumored LG Optimus G2.

Controlled leaks aren’t new – they’ve been happening for as long as I can remember, and you might be surprised that they are often initiated by high level executives at phone makers and carriers alike. It’s just a new form of marketing, though it’s admittedly a bit weird. The idea is to help build hype around a smartphone before it’s launched, but without revealing everything about the device.

We might get a few tidbits on what the phone looks like from the back, or maybe what kind of new display technology the phone might pack, and it keeps us guessing and writers reporting on each new phone. It creates headlines. It makes stories. And it gets customers excited, likely in the hopes that these customers will hold out on buying any other device in the meantime.fgvdsa3SD

By controlling a leak, a company can make sure that the facts are accurate. If it has any suspicions that someone else might leak a device, the firm can make sure that the expectations for a new Air Gesture i9500 S4 phone, whether it’s the HTC One Mini or the Moto X, are in-line with launch plans. A leak detailing an octo-core phone could be wrong and throw consumers off, but a leak detailing the correct processor, specs and release timeframe can help HTC, Nokia or any other firm give consumers just enough information to build excitement.

Now imagine someone asking this every time you want to purchase something with your smartphone, and you might understand why many mobile shoppers are abandoning their virtual shopping carts just before checkout.

Harris Interactive, in a study commissioned by Jumio, reported that 66 percent of people who use their i9500 S4 smartphones to shop have abandoned a shopping cart “due to obstacles encountered during checkout.” SeeWhy claims that the abandonment rate is closer to 97 percent and cites difficulty entering payment and shipping information on a mobile device as a problem for many shoppers. Either way, the mobile Web has more abandoned shopping carts than a Walmart parking lot.

Payvia’s service automatically detects a shopper’s cellphone number while they’re shopping and, with two taps, allows those shoppers to charge an item’s cost to their monthly phone bill. A text message confirming the charge is sent after the transaction has completed, and recurring subscriptions tell users at the end of each month how much they paid and when they’ll be charged again.fgvdsa3SD

This might be especially appealing in emerging markets, Wedd argues, because of the rising popularity of cellphones and smartphones. Payvia is partnering with Mobile XL, a Web browser for feature (“dumb”) phones, to spur that adoption within those markets. ”In terms of having a means for customers in emerging markets to transact the carrier is the perfect method,” Wedd says. “They have their phone, they use their phone, and they should be able to transact with that phone.”

As demand for smartphones continues to increase, mobile-related crime has risen with it. In the US, not only are smartphones a prime target for thieves looking to make a quick buck, organized crime gangs are paying large sums of money to ship devices outside the country. The Huffington Post takes a look at the massive global market for smartphones, detailing the operation of a US company that accepted so many stolen iPhones and iPads (to ship overseas) it needed an armored truck to deliver the stacks of cash it used to pay for them all.

While there are strict processes in place to restrict the trading of stolen smartphones in the US and neighboring regions, carriers lack arrangements with other countries, which allows international i9500 S4 1:1 smartphone trafficking to thrive. It explains why some stolen handsets are often traced to the Middle East and Southeast Asia, where smartphone prices can be up to ten times higher than in western markets.

According to Engadget Chinese, the ZTE Geek will indeed be the “world’s first Tegra 4 superphone” and comes with some pretty decent specs for a ZTE device too. Don’t get it confused with the previous geek-phone rocking an Intel Atom processor, this one is all NVIDIA silicon.Along with a micro-SD slot and a large battery of unknown size, the Geek U988S will be launched exclusively on China Mobile. For now this is the first smartphone to rock the Tegra 4. Previously all reports have been tablets (linked to below) but hopefully more smartphones make an appearance. We’re looking forward to the Tegra 4i with 4G LTE support, which will be arriving later this year or early 2014.

Is your Air Gesture smartphone turning you into a slug-Priceangels.com

Until December of last year, two brothers, Henry and Victor Gamboa, drove thousands of stolen Air Gesture phones and other electronics by truck from the Bay Area to Mexico every two weeks, Santos said. The two brothers are now in jail after being convicted of running a massive stolen electronics fencing ring.

Thuc Ngo told Sprint's lawyers that he smuggled iPhones from California to his native Vietnam, where his siblings helped him find buyers, according to a deposition from a Sprint lawsuit against him.

Ngo said he obtained phones through his business, which he called "Tony Buy iPhone." He drove a white Dodge Ram 3500 van emblazoned with an advertisement -- "We Buy Used Iphone" -- listing his phone number and website, the lawsuit claims. He met customers at Starbucks coffee shops around the Bay Area and paid between $220 and $330 for each iPhone. Some of the iPhones had been reported stolen, he confessed, according to his deposition.

He regularly flew to Vietnam to sell his inventory, stuffing the phones in his pockets and strapping them to his waist beneath his clothing with plastic wrap -- a technique he used to bypass Vietnamese customs at the airport and avoid paying taxes, the deposition says. In this way, he carried 11 iPhones at a time.

"Every time I was there, people would tell me, ‘Oh, next time, I want such and such phone and if you come back, you know, sell it to me,'" he said.Earlier this year, a judge in San Francisco barred Ngo from buying and selling phones manufactured for use on Sprint's network. Ngo could not be reached for comment.Ace Wholesale acquired phones by advertising on Craigslist and websites like thewirelessbuzz.com and wirelessdealers.com. One ad read: "Buying Apple iPhone 4S!! Must Be Brand New!!..Will Buy any Quantity!!" Another read: "Ace Will Buy Your Smartphone For Top Dollar!!!!!!!"

The company listed the price it paid for each model on the walls of its stores. The latest iPhones still sealed in their original packaging commanded the highest prices. One employee told Sprint's undercover investigator that he was buying the Air Gesture S4 4S for $430.fd23QD23rs

At the Ace storefront in Taylor, Mich., the Mattress World employee next door said he saw "the same people every day" arriving with bags full of iPhones and other high-end phones and tablets. Mirrored windows prevented passersby from seeing inside. The company hired a security guard to sit in a car in the parking lot. Sometimes, people bought phones from others in the parking lot, then resold them inside Ace.

With so much valuable inventory moving through its operation, Ace Wholesale itself became a target for robberies, police say. In February 2011, Floarea, the store's owner, told police that four masked men broke into his store and stole 258 cell phones worth about $140,000. One month later, police say six men wearing masks broke into Ace Wholesale again and stole Air Gesture i9500 S4 smartphones and tablets worth $173,000.

What does the price reduction of the 7 inch android tablet really mean- Priceangels.com

Back in December of 2012 Dealnews reported that Boston-based brokerage firm Detwiler Fenton estimated lower than expected sales of Redmond-based Microsoft Surface tablet. They suggested that Microsoft should lower the price of their 7 inch android tablet. Instead of taking that advice the Redmond-based software giant stuck with the price and sales have continued to fall short of expectations. After months of rumors about what Microsoft will do about their struggling tablet they finally decided to give us a hefty price drop.fd23QD23rs

According to the latest ads from Staples, starting tomorrow, the two versions of the Surface tablet will be slashed between 21% and 30% . That Microsoft would be slashing the prices of their tablets now brings up a few questions. Are they trying to entice buyers to move back inventory as some sources have suggested? Could the price reduction mean that there is a new Surface in the works? With Barnes & Noble announcing that they will no longer produce the Nook tablet will Microsoft take that over and merge it with the Surface? with the new reorganization are they taking the Surface in a new direction? Or is the Surface doomed to follow the same path as the Kin and Zune?

the Samsung Lumia 1020 Smartphone Bets Big on Photos-Priceangels.com

Samsung i9500 S4 is hoping you want to take better photos with your smartphone and that to do so, you’re willing to pay $300 with a two-year AT&T contract for the privilege. Oh, and you’ll need to get comfortable with Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform as well.

This isn’t the first megapixel-heavy phone we’ve heard about from Samsung i9500 S4. More than a year ago, the company rolled out the 41-megapixel 808 PureView. By most accounts, the phone took great photos, but the fact that it ran the Symbian operating system (and was the final Samsung i9500 S4 phone to do so) made it somewhat of a non-starter. At the time the PureView 808 was released, I wondered if Samsung i9500 S4 would “eventually merge this camera technology into future Windows Phone products…as the company’s partnership with Microsoft continues moving forward.”

It looks like that’s exactly what’s going on with the Samsung i9500 S4 Lumia 1020, announced today at a press event in New York. Like the 808, the Lumia 1020 will feature a 41-megapixel camera, along with a few extras. As The Verge reports, “Samsung i9500 S4’s brought two significant improvements to the Lumia 1020 that weren’t present in the 808 PureView: a backside-illuminated sensor and optical image stabilization…Combined, the two should help the Lumia 1020 offer pretty great low-light performance.”

As with the 808 PureView, the 41-megapixel camera feature may sound like overkill, but it actually uses up to seven pixels to capture a single pixel in finished photos, which get cobbled together into far more manageable 5-megapixel files. All those extra pixels let you zoom in and out (both before and after you take a picture) without losing as much image quality as you’d lose with a standard smartphone camera.

Samsung i9500 S4's new flagship phone shares the same handsome aesthetic as its tablet kin. And it too survived a dousing. The phone has a lovely 5-inch "Full HD" screen (pixel density 443 ppi). It runs off a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and has a 13-megapixel camera that Samsung i9500 S4 claims takes excellent images in low light. And Samsung i9500 S4 says it has the world's first sensor that applies the imaging technique known as HDR (High-Dynamic Range) not only to still images but to video.dfg343WEW

Among the other features is a battery stamina mode that shuts down wireless radios and background activity when the device is not in use — it's of course meant to keep the phone juiced up longer (but I haven't had a chance to do any formal battery tests). T-Mobile and Samsung i9500 S4 are also pushing the device's NFC (near field communication) capabilities.

As with the Xperia Z tablet, and for that matter, the Samsung i9500 S4 1:1 Galaxy S4 Active smartphone that I also recently reviewed, the phone meets a specification that allows it to be under 1 meter of water for up to a half hour, provided all the ports and covers are closed.

At T-Mobile, qualified buyers can get the device for $99.99 down with 24 equal monthly device payments of $20. It reaches those stores on July 17.

Starting today, you can also buy it directly in physical Samsung i9500 S4 Stores or online using a Samsung i9500 S4 Financial Services card by putting nothing down and paying and $25 a month for 24 months. Or you can pay $579.99 upfront. Early buyers may be eligible to receive a free Samsung i9500 S4 Bluetooth speaker with the purchase of the phone, while supplies last.
